James Gunn has swatted down Man of Tomorrow rumours on Threads, stressing the film sticks to its core duo rather than the cameo circus some are imagining.
Let’s clear the air on Man of Tomorrow, because — in true comic book movie fashion — wild rumours have been spiralling for months now about surprise characters, secret cameos, and crossover madness. And James Gunn himself has now stepped in to put a stop to it. Apparently, most of what you’re hearing online is, to quote the man, “dead wrong”.

The internet’s been buzzing that Warner’s Superman sequel was going to be absolutely stuffed with unexpected faces from across the DC Universe. But Gunn’s not having any of it. As he responded to a fan on Threads, don’t expect a parade of superheroes fighting for screentime.
Here’s how Gunn clarified things in a direct exchange with fans after yet another question about extra characters cropping up:

So, yes — it’s still a big superhero film, but not that sort. Gunn spelled it out further for everyone getting a bit too carried away, pointing out that both the number of new faces and the amount of screen time anyone other than Superman, Lex, or Brainiac will get has been blown “way out of proportion”.
The Essentials: Story, Cast, and Who's Actually In It
This is very much Gunn’s project: he’s writing and directing again, carrying on from his last Superman film. The story? All about David Corenswet’s Superman forging an uneasy partnership with Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, as they’re forced to tackle Brainiac — now confirmed to be played by Lars Eidinger.
Rachel Brosnahan is back as Lois Lane. Skyler Gisondo sticks around as Jimmy Olsen. Sara Sampaio returns playing Eve Teschmacher, and Frank Grillo is back as Rick Flag Sr. There are a few new names in the supporting cast — Andre Royo, Matthew Lillard, Sinqua Walls, and Adria Arjona — but their roles are still hush-hush.
The sequel lands in cinemas 9 July 2027.
Fans on the forums have been particularly obsessed with who Adria Arjona might be playing. The popular bets? Either Maxima or (pretty far-fetched, but this is DC) a new Wonder Woman. But as Gunn’s now said, don’t count on suddenly seeing a full Justice League line-up or anything close.
Man of Tomorrow is locked for a July 2027 release and seems set to keep the spotlight exactly where it started: on Superman and Lex, with Brainiac as the one big game-changer. All that talk of endless cameos? Pure fantasy, according to the bloke actually making the film.
