New Prison Break star teases fan-favorite comebacks in Hulu reboot
Prison Break is busting out on Hulu again — and it might bring some old cellmates. With production underway, a new cast member teases the reboot could welcome back fan-favorite faces from the original.
Grab your blueprints and get your tattoo artist on speed dial, because Prison Break is bursting out again – this time on Hulu. The reboot is already in production, and if you thought they were just dusting off the name for a new cast, well, it sounds like things aren’t quite that simple. In fact, you might just spot a few familiar faces from the original series cropping up when this fresh batch of episodes lands.
The Prison Break Universe Gets Bigger (But Not Unrecognisable)
Lukas Gage – you’ll know him from Euphoria, You, and, let’s be honest, being generally everywhere on streaming telly these days – is front and centre in this new take. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, he confirmed that the reboot isn’t a total do-over; it’s set in the same universe as the original. To quote him directly:
'We might see a couple of OGs coming back.' That’s… vague, but just titillating enough to kick off no end of speculation about who’s coming back for another round of elaborate tunnelling.
A Quick Refresher: The Prison Break Legacy
If you missed it: the original Prison Break ran from 2005 to 2009 on Fox, before popping up again for a final series in 2017. That show was built around brothers Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows (Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell, respectively), whose knack for getting into – and, more importantly, out of – American correctional facilities made for some top-notch appointment television at the time. They’re not confirmed for the reboot, but given Gage’s teasing, anyone with a Wikipedia page from the old show could conceivably show up. Let the wild guessing commence.
Why Hulu Changes the Game
The biggest difference this time? Hulu isn’t network TV, so the gloves are off. According to Gage, the move from Fox to streaming means they can take the story to darker, grittier, and probably nastier places. He put it like this:
'We can get really gritty and get really dark. It's gonna be crazy, it's gonna be a wild ride.' Let’s face it, the original got pretty bonkers by the end, so all bets are off with this lot.
The New Faces Joining the Yard
Hulu’s lineup brings together quite the range of talent:
- Lukas Gage (front and centre this time)
- Emily Browning
- Drake Rodger
- Clayton Cardenas
- JR Bourne
- Georgie Flores
- Myles Bullock
One thing Gage was especially chuffed about is working alongside Margo Martindale – you know, proper Hollywood royalty when it comes to character actors. In his words:
'I'm working with Margo Martindale right now, and that's like a character actor dream world.'
Plot? Still Locked Up (For Now)
Don’t expect much in the way of plot giveaways just yet – they’re keeping those details firmly under lock and key for now. What’s clear, though, is that Hulu’s reboot isn’t about tossing out what made the original tick. The aim is to respect the old while launching something new, with the occasional wink (or cameo, maybe) for longtime fans.
