Murdoch Mysteries leaves Toronto for its twentieth season, and opens in Malta on 5 October

Murdoch Mysteries is back for its 20th round starting Monday, 5 October, on Ovation TV.
For the uninitiated, the show follows William Murdoch (played by Yannick Bisson), a copper in early-1900s Toronto who solves murders using scientific inventions your local chief constable would probably treat with suspicion. It’s all based on books by Maureen Jennings—and somehow, after all these years, still going strong.
What’s new for Season 20?
There's a proper shakeup this time: the stories aren’t just sticking to the usual Toronto haunts. Apparently, Murdoch is taking the show international—this season, he’ll wind up in Malta, of all places. The case involves a mystery writer, Nigella Fletcher, whose neck is firmly on the line for her husband’s murder. Not exactly sun, sea, and sangria. Expect the usual mix of elaborate puzzles and a dash of personal crisis thrown in for good measure.
Alongside Bisson, the cast regulars are back: you’ve got Thomas Craig as Chief Inspector Brackenreid, Lachlan Murdoch as Constable Higgins, plus Kataem O’Connor, Daniel Maslany, Shanice Banton, and Paul Sun-Hyung Lee. There’s no shortage of familiar faces. This season, you’ll also spot Jason Mewes (yes, that Jason Mewes), Emma Slater from 'Dancing with the Stars', and Yanic Truesdale (Michel from Gilmore Girls).

Murdoch Mysteries originally launched in Canada back in 2008.
