Warner Bros. just christened its Minecraft sequel at CinemaCon, unveiling the official title and a stacked release slate that stretches into 2027 and beyond.

If you thought Hollywood was running out of new ideas, get ready for the sequel you might not have seen coming—but let's be honest, if you've looked at box office numbers lately, maybe you did. Warner Bros. just officially revealed the title for the next 'Minecraft' movie, and brace yourself: it's called 'A Minecraft Sequel.' No points for originality, but at least you know exactly what you’re getting.

So, 'A Minecraft Sequel' Is Really the Title?

Yep, that’s the actual, no-frills name that Warner Bros. dropped at CinemaCon 2026. Jonathan Sim—who you may know from ComingSoon—was at the event and blasted the update out on X (you know, Twitter, but not called Twitter):

'The Minecraft sequel is titled A MINECRAFT SEQUEL. #CinemaCon'

Not exactly subtle, but subtlety isn’t really in the 'Minecraft' playbook. If nothing else, the naming committee are pros at following the “say what it is” rule.

Who’s Involved This Time?

The movie is on the calendar for July 23, 2027, so, yes, you’ve got time to prepare (or forget and then rediscover at the last minute). Jared Hess is back in the director's chair—that's the guy who brought us 'Napoleon Dynamite' and, well, the first 'Minecraft' movie. Writing credits go to Chris Galletta.

The cast keeps getting weirder (in a good way). Earlier this year, Kirsten Dunst joined the lineup alongside Jack Black and Jason Momoa, who are both returning. Yes, that is a real sentence about a CGI movie based on a sandbox video game.

As for how things are shaping up behind the scenes, Momoa recently gushed to Jimmy Fallon:

'Bro, end of April. They’re in it. The script is even better. It’s so good, I was laughing out loud. I haven’t laughed out loud in a very long time at a script. I was perplexed on the first script; this one, I’m laughing out loud.'

In case you missed it: Momoa basically admitted the first script was confusing but is genuinely excited about the new one. I can’t say that’s not relatable.

What Else Is Warner Bros. Teasing?

In addition to confirming 'A Minecraft Sequel,' Warner Bros. pulled back the curtain on pretty much every major movie they’re prepping for 2027 and beyond. It’s a wild lineup, and if you like sequels, remakes, nostalgic IP, or just long titles, you’re in luck.

  • Animal Friends
  • Remain
  • Panic Carefully
  • Godzilla x Kong: Supernova
  • Untitled F.A.S.T. Film

  • The Conjuring: First Communion
  • The Batman: Part II
  • Margie Claus
  • Gremlins
  • Lord of the Rings: Hunt for Gollum

If you’re having trouble believing that’s all real, join the club. We’ve got more sequels, prequels, and spin-offs than the MCU ever dreamed of—and apparently even more crossovers with toy brands, horror legends, and 2000s rom-com directors.

So, is 'A Minecraft Sequel' a placeholder, or do they just want to see if fans will pay for another round in the blocky universe, no fancy subtitle needed? For now, Warner Bros. is keeping things straightforward—at least title-wise. Start practicing your pickaxe swings and mark July 2027 on your calendar.
