Mike Colter hints at a possible return as Luke Cage, revealing he has 'unfinished business' with the role as speculation swirls ahead of Daredevil: Born Again’s second series on Disney Plus.

Mike Colter, best known for his portrayal of Luke Cage, has dropped a tantalising hint about stepping back into the Marvel universe. The actor, who brought the bulletproof Harlem hero to life, recently admitted he feels there’s more to explore with the character.

“Listen, I will say this, I've had conversations... and I'll leave it at that,”

Colter remarked during a chat on the On That Note Podcast.

“Because when it wrapped... y'know I loved playing Luke Cage but I love acting and doing different things. So I just was like, 'I'll do something else.' I love the fans and I love that world. And it's been years now. So now, I'm doing other projects, but now I think to myself 'I have some unfinished business there.'”

Before Marvel’s street-level heroes found a new home, Daredevil and Jessica Jones made their debut on Netflix in 2015. Their success paved the way for Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Punisher, each carving out their own corner of New York’s underbelly. The culmination of these stories saw the heroes unite as The Defenders, a short-lived but memorable supergroup. Luke Cage’s own series ran for two outings, first appearing in 2016, and featured a notable ensemble including Rosario Dawson, Mahershala Ali, and Stephen Rider, who has since gone on to star in It: Welcome to Derry.

Rumours and Reunion Whispers

The first series of Daredevil: Born Again marked the return of Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, better known as the Punisher. With Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones confirmed for the second series, speculation about a full Defenders reunion has been rife. Yet, Colter insists he’s not received any official word.

“I talked to Cheo [Hodari Coker] about it, he was the creator and showrunner [on Netflix's Luke Cage series], and now I've reached the point where I'm like, 'I have some unfinished business' and I think Daredevil's back so, c'mon... Jessica's back.”

Despite the swirling rumours, Colter’s comments suggest he’s as much in the dark as the rest of us, though his enthusiasm for the role remains undimmed. The prospect of seeing these characters share the screen again has certainly set tongues wagging among long-time fans.

Looking Ahead to Disney Plus

The much-anticipated second series of Daredevil: Born Again is scheduled to arrive on Disney Plus in March. While the streaming platform has yet to confirm any additional castings, the return of familiar faces from Marvel’s Netflix era has already generated considerable excitement. For those eager to keep abreast of what’s next, a steady stream of updates on upcoming Marvel projects continues to fuel anticipation.
