Michael Douglas says Jack Nicholson is done with acting for good: “He has disappeared”
Michael Douglas says a fellow screen icon will never act again — and he’s gutted they never shared the screen.
There’s something a bit off about film legends slipping away without any fuss, isn’t there? No awards-laden farewell, no self-deprecating talk show tour – just a quiet exit. Jack Nicholson, one of the big-screen all-timers, did exactly that. His last proper role was a blink-and-miss part in How Do You Know? back in 2010, and as far as Hollywood is concerned, he pulled the ripcord after that and disappeared into the LA haze.
Jack Nicholson hasn't made a film since How Do You Know? hit cinemas in 2010.
Michael Douglas Reminisces
Turns out, Jack’s retreat didn’t go completely unnoticed among his peers. Michael Douglas, who’s been mates with Jack for yonks, recently popped up at the Swansea Building Society Arena in Wales. He was plugging his new memoir, but of course, talk drifted to Jack.
Here’s how Douglas put it to the crowd at the event:
I would have liked to have acted with Jack. He’s not working anymore. He’s well. He has disappeared. I know that. I still see him, but he is fine. He is up there by his house and walking around in his slippers. It happens. He deserves it. I understand. He is a few years older than me but I understand.
Douglas hasn’t minced words there — Nicholson’s given up the ghost on film acting. If you’d secretly hoped for a final comeback, you can probably stop waiting.
No Regrets, Just Getting On With It
This isn’t just second-hand pub talk. Record producer and long-time pal Lou Adler (yes, the one who turns up almost as often as Jack at Lakers games) gave a bit more insight a while back while chatting with Marc Maron. According to Adler, when another friend fancied getting Jack back in front of a camera, he wasn’t having any of it. Apparently, Jack told him outright he was perfectly content passing the time sitting under a tree with a good book in hand instead of a script. Adler found it all quite fitting, summing up the actor’s attitude as just doing whatever he feels like these days – eating what he wants, laying low, and not caring what anyone thinks. Jack’s spotted at a Lakers game now and again, but the era of Nicholson commanding every courtside seat is gone. Adler still pops in from time to time himself, but says those regular basketball nights are firmly in the past.
