Matt Damon has addressed speculation about his involvement in 'Ocean's 14', hinting at uncertainty despite George Clooney's upbeat remarks. The actor admits he has yet to see a script or receive confirmation.

Matt Damon, a familiar face in British cinemas thanks to his turns in Oppenheimer and The Bourne Identity, has offered a rather ambiguous update regarding his potential involvement in the next instalment of the Ocean’s franchise. While George Clooney has been making optimistic noises about the project’s progress and the likelihood of the original cast reuniting, Damon’s own comments suggest the situation is far from settled.

Speaking during a recent chat with Netflix, prompted by the release of his latest action flick The Rip, Damon was asked about the much-discussed return to the world of high-stakes heists. His response was less than definitive. On the Still Watching Netflix podcast, he remarked that he keeps

“hearing about it”

but, beyond that, there’s little to report. Damon, who played the quick-fingered Linus Caldwell in the original trilogy, has been a central figure since Ocean’s Eleven. Clooney, meanwhile, has been quoted as saying the new film would see the old gang back together, with a possible start date in late 2026. He mused,

“There was something about the idea that we're too old to do what we used to do, but we're still smart enough to know how to get away with something, that just appeals to me. They've lost a step, and they need to find a way to work around their limitations.”

Uncertainty Lingers Over the Sequel

Despite Clooney’s enthusiasm, Damon’s remarks point to a project still in limbo. He admitted he hasn’t seen a script, nor does he know if one even exists.

“You know, we have to get a script, we have to get, you know, there's a lot of ducks we have to get in a row. I do know that everybody would love to do it. You know, the group of people would love to get back together.”

The sense is that, while the cast are keen, the wheels are yet to be set in motion.

For fans hoping for a swift return to the glitzy world of Danny Ocean and his crew, this update may come as a bit of a letdown. The anticipation, fuelled by Clooney’s earlier comments and hints from other cast members, now seems somewhat premature. Damon’s candour leaves the door open, but only just.

Other Projects and a Possible Cameo

Turning to his other commitments, Damon spoke about his recent experience working with Christopher Nolan on The Odyssey, describing it as a significant moment in his career.

“I'm still kind of unpacking it, but it did have a profound effect on me,”

he reflected, adding,

“Doing The Odyssey this last year, it felt like my one chance in my life to make a David Lean movie, that I was making the last big movie on film that I was ever going to get to make.”

As for the possibility of Ben Affleck making an appearance in the next Ocean’s outing, Damon revealed that Affleck has shown interest in joining the fun.

“He's like, 'I've been trying to get in these movies.' He goes, 'How many of these have you done?' Maybe we can put him in a cameo as Ben Affleck.”

It’s a light-hearted aside, but one that hints at the camaraderie among the group—even if the cameras aren’t rolling just yet.
