Marvel A-Lister Signs On For Shrinking Ahead of the New Season
Guardians of the Galaxy alum Karen Gillan is joining Harrison Ford in Shrinking Season 4, coming in after Season 3 wrapped its 11-episode run on Apple TV.
Right, here we go – some rather interesting news from the Apple TV comedy camp. If you thought Shrinking already had enough star power shuffling around its fictional therapist's office, think again. There's a new face joining the roster, and it's a casting move anyone with a vague awareness of Hollywood will clock as a big deal.
Marvel Royalty on Board
Karen Gillan – yes, that Karen Gillan, better known across the galaxy as Nebula from Guardians of the Galaxy – is officially joining Shrinking for its fourth season. No word yet on who she's playing (Apple, typically cagey, keeping all character info quiet), but she's in. Fresh off her recent stint in the TV miniseries Douglas Is Cancelled, Gillan clearly can't keep away from a camera for long. Bit of a reunion too: she actually worked with Jason Segel, the show's star and co-creator, before, producing and acting alongside him in the recent dark comedy film Over Your Dead Body.
Who's Still in the Mix?
- Harrison Ford (really doesn't need the intro, does he?)
- Jason Segel (wears about eleven hats on this show – lead actor, co-creator, writer, you name it)
- Christa Miller
- Jessica Williams
- Luke Tennie
- Michael Urie
- Lukita Maxwell
- Ted McGinley
This lot, by the way, have formed a stacked ensemble since the show kicked off in 2023, and it's managed to pull the rare trick of staying both funny and widely liked — the Rotten Tomatoes crowd has it sitting neatly on a 93% average, which even the most cynical streaming sceptic would be impressed by.
The Brains Behind It
For anyone curious who's been steering the ship: Segel writes and executive produces alongside Bill Lawrence (the guy who created Scrubs and Ted Lasso if you need credentials) and Brett Goldstein, who basically runs the joint on Ted Lasso as well. Add to that a shortlist of regular executive producers – Jeff Ingold, Liza Katzer, Neil Goldman, James Ponsoldt, Randall Winston, Rachna Fruchbom, Ashley Nicole Black, and Bill Posley – and you've got a proper engine room cranking out episodes. It's the sort of script department any sitcom would kill for.
What Happens Next?
Season three of Shrinking wrapped up a little over a month ago, but don't expect the series to disappear for a bit of a nap. Season four is coming and, reportedly, there will be a time jump and a new chapter for the gang. Nobody's getting written out just yet:
"We aren't going into this season as if it's our last," Lawrence said, hinting that they're plotting out at least two more runs. "I was just with the writers, because we were figuring out the arcs for the next two seasons."
So the plan is bigger than just one final hurrah – they're thinking ahead, and bets are on more twists, more therapy sessions, and probably, knowing this lot, a few musical interludes.
