Francesca Scorsese isn’t here for the trolls. After landing a role in Mr. & Mrs. Smith, the youngest daughter of Martin Scorsese jumped on TikTok to clap back at a flood of body-shaming and looks-based jabs, posting a new video that puts her critics on blast.

Here we go again, another case of 'internet reacts badly to celebrity offspring getting cast'. This time, it’s Francesca Scorsese – yes, Martin Scorsese’s daughter – who’s taking the heat after nabbing a role on Mr. & Mrs. Smith Season 2 for Prime Video. If you assumed the whole nepo baby chat had calmed down, clearly not; the online crowd is still very much at it.

Scorsese Daughter in the Crosshairs

So, the news comes out that Francesca Scorsese’s joined the cast. Cue the usual murmurs about nepotism, but this one took a grimmer turn: within minutes, social media’s finest were lobbing comments at her appearance. Not just the standard fare, either – genuinely nasty stuff.

Francesca actually addressed it all via TikTok, which, judging from her tone, is something she’d really rather not have to do. She described the reaction in pretty blunt terms, saying:

'It has some of the worst comments I have ever seen about me.'

She wasn’t exaggerating. According to Francesca, people were calling her everything from 'fat' and 'ugly' to 'fridge' and, charmingly, 'Miss Piggy'. Yes, really. Welcome to TikTok in 2024.

'Yes, My Dad’s Famous but I’m Actually Doing the Work'

The nepo baby accusation isn’t new to her – she's been hearing it since day one. Rather than dodge the obvious, Francesca admitted her surname does open more doors, but she insists she’s actually putting the effort in:

'I know I have doors opened for me... I’m still trying to do the work, I’m still going hard and being passionate and creating and doing the work.'

You can sense a bit of exasperation underneath it all, to be honest. In the same video, she got a bit philosophical about her critics: if you’re lurking online just to leave nasty comments on people’s videos, maybe have a proper look in the mirror.

Toxic Comments, Platform Shuffle

Here’s where it gets a bit startling. Francesca specifically called out the scale of abuse she’s received – enough to drive her off X (Twitter). She reckons TikTok is now heading the same way, swamped with trolls and bots.

  • She’s had to delete her X account due to negativity
  • She’s facing the same barrage on TikTok, with people making her feel 'like s**t'
  • She said: 'This is the kind of thing that causes people to lose their lives, like, your words have power behind them.'
  • She admitted: 'I get it, I’m not the most beautiful girl in the world. I’m not the skinniest girl in the whole world. I’m chubby, I know it. But like, what the f**k does it matter?'

For good measure, she pointed out the shadow cast by her father’s legendary reputation, and how that only makes things harder when she’s just trying to carve out her own path.

Her final plea? She just wants TikTok to be a better place, the way she remembers it – not the digital Wild West it’s apparently become.

Next Up: Mr. & Mrs. Smith Season 2

All this fuss is over one role, remember. Francesca Scorsese is set to appear in the upcoming season of Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Whether the series itself will have as much drama as this casting news is anyone’s guess.
