Mark Ruffalo addresses speculation about his involvement in Avengers: Doomsday, offering candid insights into his future with Marvel and reflecting on his history of accidental spoilers.

Marvel’s next blockbuster, Avengers: Doomsday, is shaping up to be a colossal event, but one familiar face won’t be joining the fray. Mark Ruffalo, who has long embodied the green-skinned powerhouse, has confirmed he won’t be smashing his way into the 2026 ensemble. The film, which promises to reunite a host of Marvel’s heavy hitters against Robert Downey Jr.’s Victor von Doom, is already stirring up questions about whether the team can manage without their not-so-jolly green giant.

Ruffalo, speaking in the latest issue of Empire Magazine, was quite open about his absence.

“As long as they keep finding cool things to do with Hulk. It's given me so many gifts. You know, I probably wouldn't be in Crime 101 if it wasn't for The Avengers,”

he remarked, hinting at a sense of gratitude for his time in the Marvel fold. His comments have only fuelled speculation about the Hulk’s fate, especially with whispers of a possible appearance in this summer’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Is the big guy in a spot of bother?

Missing from the Line-Up

The actor’s absence was first noticed when he was left out of last year’s much-discussed Doomsday cast reveal, a video that panned across a sea of labelled chairs, each one announcing a returning hero. When Jimmy Fallon pressed him on the matter, Ruffalo couldn’t resist a quip:

“They decided that it was better to get rid of me than for me to tell the end of the next movie.”

It’s a knowing nod to his reputation for letting secrets slip, a trait that’s become something of a running joke among fans and colleagues alike.

Ruffalo’s history with spoilers is, frankly, legendary. He’s managed to let slip more than a few plot twists over the years, sometimes to the visible horror of his co-stars. Who could forget the time he inadvertently revealed the devastating ‘snap’ ending of Infinity War a full year before the film hit cinemas? His attempt to backpedal did little to stem the tide, and Don Cheadle, who plays War Machine, was so unimpressed he reportedly refused to do press with him afterwards.

Accidental Leaks and Viral Moments

It’s not just interviews where Ruffalo’s loose lips have caused a stir. During the world premiere of Thor: Ragnarok, he managed to broadcast the first twenty minutes of the film to his Facebook followers. The actor, caught up in the excitement of the red carpet, forgot to end his livestream before slipping his phone into his pocket. The result? Anyone still tuned in was treated to an audio-only sneak peek until Ruffalo finally twigged.

Reflecting on the incident during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Ruffalo shared that Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige eventually saw the funny side. The unexpected leak, it turned out, generated a tidal wave of publicity for the film. Not exactly the sort of marketing strategy you’d plan, but effective all the same.

Looking Ahead

Despite sitting out Doomsday, Ruffalo remains upbeat about his future in the Marvel universe. He’s clearly fond of the character and the opportunities it’s brought his way, even if his tendency to spill the beans has occasionally landed him in hot water. Whether or not the Hulk will reappear in future projects remains to be seen, but for now, Ruffalo seems content to watch from the sidelines—at least until the next spoiler slips out.
