Ludacris is set to headline Limited Edition, a new action comedy from the creative minds behind Novocaine, promising a fresh twist on the genre.

Dan Berk and Robert Olsen, the pair responsible for the much-praised 2025 action hit Novocaine, are gearing up for another adrenaline-fuelled project. Their latest venture, Limited Edition, is currently in the works at Universal Pictures in collaboration with 87North. This new feature will see Ludacris, best known for his role in the Fast & Furious series, stepping back into the action spotlight, this time with a comedic edge.

While the specifics of the plot remain tightly under wraps, the involvement of such a notable cast and production team has already set tongues wagging. The film is being produced by Kelly McCormick and David Leitch, both of whom have a track record of delivering high-octane, stunt-driven films under the 87North banner. Braden Aftergood, who recently joined 87North after his stint at Balboa Productions, is also on board, overseeing the project from its early stages through to release. Jay Polidoro and Tony Ducret are handling production duties on Universal’s side, ensuring the project benefits from a wealth of industry experience.

Stunt-Heavy Action Meets Comedy

Limited Edition marks Ludacris’s first foray into action since his appearance in Fast X back in 2023, and his first screen role since his comedic performance in the Disney+ festive film Dashing Through the Snow. The rapper and actor has become synonymous with the Fast & Furious franchise, having portrayed Tej Parker across seven instalments. His character, often paired with Roman Pearce, has become a fan favourite for his technical know-how and quick wit. Beyond the world of fast cars and daring heists, Ludacris has also taken on more serious roles in films such as Crash and Hustle & Flow, demonstrating a range that extends well beyond action and comedy.

This new project, however, seems poised to cement his status as a leading man in the action-comedy arena. With Berk and Olsen at the helm, expectations are high for a film that will blend sharp humour with the kind of inventive set pieces that have become the directors’ trademark.

The Novocaine Effect

The creative duo’s previous outing, Novocaine, was widely regarded as one of the standout action films of 2025. Starring Jack Quaid as Nathan "Nate" Caine, the story followed a mild-mannered bank executive afflicted with Congenital Insensitivity to Pain (CIP), a rare condition that renders him unable to feel pain. This unusual trait proved rather handy when he found himself embroiled in a rescue mission after the woman he loves is abducted by a shadowy group. Novocaine was credited with breathing new life into the action-comedy genre, upending familiar tropes and injecting a dose of originality that set it apart from the competition.

Given the success of Novocaine, anticipation is building around what Berk and Olsen will deliver next. The combination of their inventive approach and Ludacris’s proven charisma suggests Limited Edition could offer something genuinely different for fans of the genre.

Production Powerhouses

The partnership between Universal and 87North has already yielded a string of successful, action-packed films, including Nobody, Violent Night, and The Fall Guy. Their ongoing first-look deal has allowed them to consistently push the boundaries of what audiences expect from action cinema, with a focus on practical stunts and dynamic storytelling. The addition of Braden Aftergood, who helped launch Balboa Productions with Sylvester Stallone, only strengthens the team’s credentials.

With Limited Edition still in development, details remain scarce, but the calibre of talent involved both in front of and behind the camera has already generated considerable buzz. As the project moves forward, action and comedy enthusiasts alike will be watching closely to see how this latest collaboration unfolds.
