Lindsay Lohan's new Netflix romance with her Mean Girls director starts with a DVD from a dying woman
Lindsay Lohan’s back with her Mean Girls and Freaky Friday director on a Netflix romance—opposite Henry Golding, no less.
Everyone's favourite comeback kid, Lindsay Lohan, is teaming up again with Mark Waters — the mind behind Mean Girls and Freaky Friday. This time, they're not reliving high school chaos or mother-daughter body swaps. Instead, we’re getting a throwback romance for Netflix, and she’s starring opposite Henry Golding (yes, the bloke from Crazy Rich Asians), in a film titled Return to You.
Return to You is set in 2008, with Lindsay Lohan playing a powerful but lonely lawyer who accidentally receives a DVD from a dying woman. The DVD was actually intended for the woman's husband. Lohan's character goes on a small quest, using clues from the DVD to track this chap down — cue Henry Golding as the mysterious husband.
In other words, it’s a romance with a bit of a mystery thrown in, the sort of ‘wrong delivery changes your life’ scenario Hollywood can’t seem to quit.

The team and timeline
Lohan isn’t just front and centre on screen; she’s producing the film too, alongside Brad Krevoy — who was on her previous Netflix Christmas projects (Falling for Christmas, Irish Wish), so he’s got plenty of practice in the shiny heartwarming department. Olivia Krevoy, Jimmy Townsend, and Galen Fletcher are on executive producing duties.
Return to You leaps back nearly twenty years, set entirely in 2008.
Script comes courtesy of Eric Champnella (the chap who wrote Unstoppable, Alex & Me, Thunderstruck, and a few other under-the-radar sports flicks). It’s all under the eye of Mark Waters, Netflix regular and the guy who helmed He’s All That, Mother of the Bride, and La Dolce Villa for the streamer. No word yet on any supporting cast, so presumably they’re still filling out the roster.

- Lohan recently headlined Freakier Friday and has Hulu’s Count My Lies coming up. She even found time to reprise her Parent Trap twins in a new commercial and popped up in a cameo for the Mean Girls TV show.
- Golding’s last gigs were The Old Guard 2 and Nine Perfect Strangers.
- Waters, by the way, is next heading up Hershey, a drama about building the chocolate empire.
