Law & Order lands on Netflix on 25 September and stops at a crossover that ends on Peacock
Law & Order Season 25 has bagged a new streaming home this month, landing just weeks before the franchise’s line-up shake-up and Season 26 return.
Time for another chapter in the Law & Order streaming saga, if you’re keeping count (and I absolutely am, because these procedural seasons never die). With Season 25 about to drop on Netflix, there are some changes on the horizon for this osteologically-inclined juggernaut — fresh faces, scheduling shake-ups, and, naturally, crossover chaos. Let’s untangle it.
Law & Order Season 25 lands on Netflix 25 September 2026, closing out its entire 21-25 season run on the platform.
What’s actually new in Season 25?
If you’ve not kept up, Season 25 ran over on NBC from late September 2025 through to mid-May 2026 — that’s 21 episodes of crime-and-courtroom comfort food. The main cast was mostly business as usual: Reid Scott, Maura Tierney, Hugh Dancy, Odelya Halevi, and Tony Goldwyn all stuck around.
The big shift hit midseason: David Ajala joined as Detective Theo Walker from episode 7 onwards. This wasn’t just a cameo, either — he replaced Mehcad Brooks (Detective Jalen Shaw) at a key departure moment, ending Brooks’s three-season run. Ajala is probably best known to genre fans from Star Trek: Discovery, so this is him hopping from spaceships to the mean streets of New York. He admitted to NBC Insider that joining such an entrenched series was special, putting it this way:
‘There is something very, very special about being part of this franchise.’
Finales, crossovers, and streaming faff
Season 25 wrapped up with a plot featuring the murder of a military hero, a questionably ethical judge, and a mountain of political intrigue as D.A. Baxter faced the voters again. Because no Law & Order season would be complete without a crossover, there was a two-parter with SVU. Here’s the annoying bit: only the Law & Order half is coming to Netflix. If you want to see how that particular story resolves on the SVU side, you’ll have to hunt it down on Peacock, as that episode stays exclusive over there.
- Season 25 arrives on Netflix on 25 September 2026.
- This completes the set of Seasons 21–25 on Netflix, but (as ever) the cross-network crossovers are still fragmented between services.
- All told, the flagship season’s 21 episodes are available for binge-watching — if you’re not fussed about cliffhangers that Netflix can’t resolve.
Looking ahead, Season 26 premieres on NBC on 8 October (that’s a Thursday, 10 p.m. Eastern for the US), sliding to a later slot so SVU can hold the nine o’clock hour. Grab your timetable, because that’s a swap from previous years. Also, expect to see less of Reid Scott, as he’s bowing out ahead of the new season.
For a sense of how long this has all been carrying on, series boss Dick Wolf said in September last year:
I woke up the other day and realized, 'My God, it's been 35 years since the start of Law & Order.'
