Kristen Stewart has hinted at a return to the Twilight universe, this time from the director’s chair, sharing her enthusiasm for helming a reboot if the opportunity arises.

Kristen Stewart, best known for her portrayal of Bella Swan, has voiced a keen interest in stepping behind the camera for a fresh take on the Twilight saga. In a recent chat, she reflected on her early days in the franchise, musing on what it might be like to revisit the world that catapulted her to stardom—albeit from a very different vantage point.

Stewart didn’t shy away from expressing admiration for the directors who shaped the original films.

“I would love — look. I love what Catherine [Hardwicke] did, I love what Chris [Weitz] did, I love what all of the directors did with the movies,”

she remarked, recalling the distinctive approaches each brought to the table. She went on to describe the unique energy that defined those early productions, noting,

“They were so themselves and weird and kind of like, squirrelly, and just so present in that time when they didn’t really know what they were yet, like before they blew up.”

Stewart’s Vision for a Reboot

When pressed on what it would take for her to sign on as director, Stewart was candid about her requirements. She mentioned the need for significant resources and a supportive environment, stating that only with

“a huge budget”

and

“a bunch of love and support”

could she fully realise her creative ambitions for the project. Her enthusiasm was unmistakable as she declared,

“Yeah, sure, I’ll do the remake. I’m doing it! I’m committed!”

The Twilight films, which ran from 2008 to 2012, not only launched Stewart’s career but also became a global phenomenon, raking in over $3 billion at the box office. The franchise’s enduring popularity continues to spark speculation about possible reboots or spin-offs, and Stewart’s willingness to return—albeit in a new capacity—adds a fresh twist to the ongoing conversation.

Shifting Focus: From On-Screen to Behind the Scenes

While Stewart remains active in front of the camera, her recent projects suggest a growing interest in directing. She has already helmed The Chronology of Water, a film featuring Imogen Poots, Thora Birch, and Jim Belushi, marking a notable shift in her career trajectory. This move behind the scenes appears to have energised her, as she continues to explore new creative avenues.

In addition to her directorial work, Stewart has co-written, produced, and is set to star in the forthcoming comedy The Wrong Girls, sharing the screen with Seth Rogen. She’s also lined up for a role in Flesh of the Gods, further demonstrating her versatility and appetite for diverse projects.

Looking Ahead

Stewart’s openness to directing a Twilight reboot has certainly piqued the interest of fans and industry watchers alike. Her blend of nostalgia for the original films and desire to bring something new to the table could make for an intriguing revival, should the opportunity present itself. For now, she remains committed to her evolving career, both in front of and behind the camera, leaving the door open for a possible return to the world that first made her a household name.
