Kim Cattrall nearly joined Coronation Street, but scheduling conflicts forced her to decline. She remains hopeful for another opportunity to appear on the beloved British soap.

Show business is full of what-ifs, but few are as tantalising as the prospect of Kim Cattrall gracing the set of Coronation Street. While many might associate her with the glitz of New York, it turns out she was once offered a role on Britain’s most enduring soap. The idea of Cattrall, best known for her portrayal of Samantha Jones, stepping onto the Weatherfield cobbles is enough to spark the imagination. Though she would not have reprised her famous character, the show’s writers would surely have found a fitting part for someone with her charisma and sharp wit.

Unfortunately, the timing was not on her side. Cattrall revealed during an appearance on Good Morning Britain in 2016 that she had to turn down the offer due to other commitments.

“Maybe they’ll ask me again,”

she remarked, leaving the door open for a future cameo. The notion of the glamorous actress appearing in the everyday world of Corrie might seem a touch unlikely, but she would have joined a long list of notable figures who have made guest appearances over the years.

Famous Faces on the Cobbles

Coronation Street has a tradition of welcoming high-profile guests. From royalty to pop stars, the show has seen its fair share of unexpected cameos. Sir Ian McKellen, for instance, took on the role of Mel Hutchwright in a memorable ten-episode arc back in 2005. Even Bob Dylan, a self-confessed fan, was offered a spot in 2022. Cattrall’s potential appearance would have been in good company, adding another layer to the soap’s rich history of surprise guests.

Despite her strong association with American television, Cattrall’s roots are much closer to home. Born in Mossley Hill, Liverpool, she grew up just a short drive from the show’s Manchester setting. It’s not hard to picture her embracing a local accent and blending in with the cast, perhaps even as a Scouser. Over the decades, a handful of Liverpudlian characters have found their way onto the Street, so the idea is far from far-fetched.

Imagining Cattrall Behind the Bar

The actress herself has mused about the possibility of working at the iconic Rover’s Return. One can easily imagine her as a bold, leopard-print-clad barmaid, stirring up drama and perhaps even a scandal or two behind the bar. Yet, despite the tantalising prospect, a decade has passed since the offer, and there’s still no sign of her on the show.

Cattrall is no stranger to British productions. Her credits include the BBC miniseries Witness for the Protection, a SkyArts short called Ruby Robinson, and a guest spot on BBC Radio 4’s Women’s Hour. With her recent marriage to a Briton, there’s every chance she’ll be spending more time in the UK, keeping hopes alive for a future appearance on one of the nation’s favourite soaps.
