Kevin Feige’s SDCC comments spark hype for Avengers and X‑Men casting announcements

You can always trust a bit of Comic-Con hype to set Marvel fans circling like sharks round a paddling pool, and this year is shaping up to be no different. Kevin Feige – you know, the big cheese behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe – has been gently fanning the flames ahead of San Diego Comic-Con 2026. Plenty of internet chatter, but for once, it actually sounds like something is brewing.

Fans Want More (As Usual)

All eyes are squarely on the next round of MCU blockbusters lighting up the schedule: Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday are landing just a few months apart. You'd think after last year's never-ending marketing blitz for Doomsday, folk would be content for a round or two. Instead, everyone's buzzing about what Feige's got up his sleeve at SDCC.

That might just be down to Feige's own comments in an interview with Collider. When asked directly for news on the Comic-Con front, he didn't exactly play coy – but he didn't spell out any specifics either.

'When we go to Hall H, it's for a reason, and it's to have some surprises and show a few things. It's our home away from home, Hall H, so I'm very excited to be heading back.'

Naturally, Marvel Twitter (sorry, 'X') has gone full tinfoil-hat mode. Depending who you ask, Feige's 'surprises' could mean anything from unveiling the complete cast for Secret Wars (you remember last year's shocker with Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom?) to finally, actually confirming who'll be putting on the yellow and blue spandex for the X-Men reboot.

Just to give you a flavour, these are the main guesses flying around:

• Another round of Doomsday cast reveals – because apparently a dozen wasn't enough
• Initial casting news for Secret Wars, which fans have been banging on about since before the pandemic

There's precedent for all this. Last time Marvel turned up at SDCC 2024, they pulled out proper headline fodder: Robert Downey Jr. surprised everyone with his new villain role, and the Russo brothers were wheeled out to announce they're officially back in the fold.
