Justin Baldoni and wife Emily finally break their silence on the Blake Lively It Ends with Us legal fight, saying the past few years brought injustice and pain as the abuse-themed romance’s rollout veered into a bruising court battle.

Right, so after ages of online speculation and court back-and-forth, Justin Baldoni and his wife Emily have finally said something—on the record—about that massive legal row with Blake Lively over their film It Ends with Us. The two popped up on Instagram with a nearly five-minute chat, putting to bed almost two years of absolute silence since the whole mess kicked off.

The Film at the Heart of It All

It Ends with Us hit cinemas back in August 2024. It’s a romantic drama, but not exactly light viewing—it deals head-on with both physical and emotional abuse. The off-screen saga, frankly, turned out to be just as dramatic as anything in the script. Reports about trouble between director/star Justin Baldoni and lead star Blake Lively started flying even before that release date.

Instead of quietly resolving things, these two (and their lawyers) spent months in a legal slugfest that ended up splashed across entertainment pages everywhere. Public feuds, lawsuits—you name it. Eventually, it wrapped up when Baldoni and Lively managed to settle out of court, though nothing about the process looked smooth from the outside.

Speaking Out for the First Time

Fast forward to now, and Justin Baldoni—with Emily by his side—has addressed the situation. Why did they take so long to say anything? Justin kicked things off in the video by saying, in his own words:

'So we have not spoken publicly for the better part of the last two years, and it’s not because we haven’t had anything to say. Because Lord knows we have, but it just felt like every time we went to make a video like this, we wanted to speak, something was telling us not to. It just didn’t feel like the right time, and we were talking about it and feeling into it and praying about it.'

Emily chimed in, saying this finally felt like 'the moment', and then made it clear they weren’t planning to dish on every last detail. She focused instead on the 'immense gratitude' they felt—though she admitted that didn’t really erase the sense of 'injustice and pain' they’d both experienced.

‘Gratitude’ and ‘Injustice’, Side by Side

  • Emily made a point to thank those who stood by them, but also spoke candidly about how tough the last few years had been, questioning how this saga could even happen, 'let alone disguised as a fight for women.'
  • Both said the experience was traumatic for their family, but that they are 'healing'.
  • Justin and Emily deliberately tried not to 'add to the noise' out there, despite hearing plenty of things that hurt, saying they preferred to 'let the justice system run its course’.
  • The pair credited their faith and family for helping them get through all of it, and gave a shout-out to their supporters for sticking with them.

The main thing, if you translate their careful words, is that they feel deeply wronged by how it all went down, but they’re also relieved it’s over and want to move on. Still, they’re not keen to fill in the gossip gaps—just offering their own perspective now that everything has (publicly at least) calmed down.
