Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Netflix AI project is stacking talent, with MCU alum Alfre Woodard joining Toni Collette and two more stars, and Anne Hathaway aboard too — reuniting the Dark Knight Rises duo.

Right, so Joseph Gordon-Levitt is getting properly busy over at Netflix with a new AI-themed film on the way, and the casting is starting to get rather interesting. If you’re the sort who likes to keep tabs on everyone jumping between major franchises and streaming projects, this one actually does get a bit tangled – in a good way.

Now Starring: MCU Vets and a Stacked Lineup

The newest addition to the cast is Alfre Woodard, who you’ll know from Marvel’s Luke Cage and Captain America: Civil War – yes, that major one Marvel fans endlessly reference for ‘that scene in the hallway’.

Woodard’s got range: she’s just come off The Boroughs (she’s Judy Daniels, a retired journalist knocking about a retirement community, for those keeping score) and she’s popped up in The Last Frontier and Summer Camp as well. In a nutshell, she turns up everywhere and rarely phones it in.

With Woodard stepping in, the ensemble now includes:

  • Toni Collette (Hereditary, the criminally underrated Mickey 17, and recently Wayward, where she played a somewhat terrifying head teacher)
  • Chloe Coleman (Big Little Lies, and more recently the My Spy sequel that probably surprised people by actually existing)
  • Sagar Radia (Industry, and popping up in An t-Eilean plus something called BAIT in 2026 – yes, really, a project that far out is already being name-checked)

Don’t forget, Anne Hathaway is also on-board, which is a minor reunion for her and Gordon-Levitt after The Dark Knight Rises. If nothing else, Nolan die-hards will notice.

What’s Going On With This AI Movie Anyway?

Here’s the thing: they’re still not telling us what the film’s actually about. We know 'AI' is at the centre, but as far as plot details go, it’s all a bit hush-hush. Netflix announced the project towards the end of 2024, but the script is under wraps.

What’s slightly wild is the talent behind it: Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman are producing (so, more of the minds responsible for the Knives Out films), while Joseph Gordon-Levitt himself is directing and co-wrote the script alongside Kieran Fitzgerald. This isn’t just a vanity gig – he’s properly steering the thing.

Gordon-Levitt’s been on a bit of a comeback spree lately too, appearing in Greedy People, Killer Heat (private detective role; he seems to enjoy those), and of course, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. Not content with that, he’s also due in Paradise Records and the next Beverly Hills Cop flick, just in case you thought he’d slowed down.
