Two years of ideas and none of them good enough — Kit Harington is the one who stopped the Jon Snow series
Harington told Josh Horowitz that he, HBO and George R.R. Martin agreed from the start not to make it unless the story was right.
Right, in the ever-evolving graveyard of Game of Thrones spin-off ideas, the Jon Snow sequel is still floating around in limbo, and Kit Harington has now spoken up about why that is. If you thought this thing was quietly on the way, well, you’re going to have to keep waiting — probably a while, if anything ever comes of it.

Harington’s been chatting with Josh Horowitz on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, laying out where things stand on the Jon Snow show. Turns out they’ve been knocking around ideas for the better part of two years — apparently none of them good enough to actually make. Fans, sharpen your pitchforks elsewhere.
In Harington’s own words on the podcast: "We developed it two years or so. I still think there's a world in which something could work. I wouldn't have gone into it in the first place if I didn't. But I was very insistent at the start — as was HBO and George R.R. Martin — of like: 'If we don't find the right thing, let's not do it. It's much better if we don't.' After a little while of thinking about it — it kind of was me — [I said], 'This isn't quite the right [story.]"
To break that down: yes, he’s still up for it in theory, and yes, HBO and George R.R. Martin have all been involved, but the basic problem is the same as it’s ever been – they haven’t got a story they actually want to film. Harington himself says he was 'very insistent' that they not bother unless they come up with something truly worthwhile. Novel concept, you might say, but after the series finale put a lot of noses out of joint, it’s not the worst approach.
So for now, the Jon Snow project joins the pile of spin-offs stuck at the 'not quite the right story' stage. If you were hoping for some big announcement, Harington just confirmed there’s nothing concrete to share yet – just some ideas that haven’t quite clicked.
