James Bond reboot reveals the first real clues about the next 007
Fresh intel on the next James Bond just landed from one of the franchise’s most reliable voices, hinting the new 007 is closer than fans think.
So, Bond is still missing in action—and the search for Daniel Craig's replacement has somehow managed to get even stranger. After Craig gave up his licence to kill back in 2021's No Time to Die, the franchise did a bit of a disappearing act. Then the rights were picked up by Amazon MGM Studios for what I'd call a suspiciously low $20 million. Low enough to make you wonder if they checked the back pockets for extra change.
New Director: Big Sci-Fi Name at the Helm
This time round, they've brought in Denis Villeneuve to run the show—the bloke behind Dune and Blade Runner 2049. Not exactly known for cheeky spy capers, but you can see why they'd want him if the plan is to drag Bond into the 'epic' territory. Villeneuve being attached is Hollywood's equivalent of sticking a gold sticker on your homework.
Auditions And Fan Frenzy: Where Are We Now?
Casting is properly underway according to Deadline's late June update, with Villeneuve and Amazon sifting through the shortlists and now letting actors know if they’ve made the next audition round. These next-stage auditions are supposedly pencilled in for August.
Do we know how long this is going to take? Of course not—there’s no public timeline for announcing Bond Number Eight.
Who's In The Mix? Names and (Rumoured) Favourites
Here’s the current cast of suspects, at least going by the bookies, trades, and internet noise:

- Paul Mescal
- Jacob Elordi
- Louis Partridge
They’re mostly young, pretty, British (or at least British-adjacent), and very much part of the social media casting conversation. But until Amazon or Villeneuve actually posts the name above a silhouette holding a martini, it’s all just educated guesswork.
Diversity Debate: Former Casting Boss Says 'No'
The question that seems to come up every time a new Bond is up for grabs is whether they’ll finally cast a woman, or a person of colour. The answer, at least from one all-too-familiar quarter, remains a hard no. Debbie McWilliams, who did the casting for Bond for decades, was asked this—again—on stage at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival. Her reply was as blunt as a shaken, not stirred, martini:
Make of that what you will, but it’s a pretty strong hint that the next 007 will look a lot like the previous seven—white, male and cut to fit Fleming’s original brief.
What's Next For Bond?
No production or release date has surfaced, but it's fairly safe to say that whatever they eventually reveal, Bond is going to be all over the headlines before 2026 is out.
