Hugh Jackman Teases Wolverine’s Fate After Deadpool & Wolverine
Hugh Jackman hints at Wolverine’s future beyond Deadpool & Wolverine, suggesting his time as Logan may not be over—unless Marvel’s Kevin Feige has other plans. Find out what’s next for the iconic mutant.
Hugh Jackman has offered fresh insight into the future of his most famous character, Logan, following the release of Deadpool & Wolverine. Despite the widely praised conclusion to his story in Logan, Jackman now appears open to reprising the role, unless Marvel Studios’ chief, Kevin Feige, decides otherwise.
Jackman’s Reluctance and Change of Heart
For years, Jackman maintained that he had finished with the role, even as Ryan Reynolds persistently encouraged him to return. It took half a decade for Jackman to reconsider, but he eventually decided to don the claws once more.
For five years, I was like, ‘I’m done.’ And Ryan Reynolds would ring me a lot like, ‘Come on!’ I’m like, ‘No,’And then I rang him one day and said, ‘I’m in.’ And so I go with this, and that’s what my gut says, it’s not done. But that’s just me! Marvel might have different ideas.
While there have been whispers about Wolverine and Deadpool appearing in Avengers: Doomsday, nothing has been officially confirmed. However, given Marvel’s penchant for multiversal storylines, it would hardly be surprising to see Jackman’s character return in some capacity.
Wolverine’s Return Feels All but Certain
The main obstacle to Wolverine’s comeback was Jackman’s own reluctance after Logan’s emotional finale. Now that he seems willing to continue, it’s likely that Marvel will seize the opportunity to feature him again. The multiverse saga has already shown that no character is ever truly gone, at least in a narrative sense.
With speculation swirling about Chris Evans’ Captain America possibly making a comeback in Doomsday, the odds of seeing Wolverine again—especially after Deadpool 3—seem rather high. While this approach risks diminishing the impact of Logan’s ending, the next Avengers films could provide a fitting send-off for Jackman’s portrayal.
Secret Wars and the End of an Era
The scale of Doomsday and Secret Wars suggests that a host of legacy characters may return for the final act of the multiverse storyline. Rumours indicate that Secret Wars could serve as the last chapter for Fox’s X-Men, with the franchise expected to undergo a soft reboot afterwards.
Given that Jackman’s mutant was the face of Fox’s X-Men series, it would be appropriate for him to bow out alongside his fellow mutants in Secret Wars before Marvel embarks on a new direction. There’s also the possibility that Jackman is being deliberately vague about his involvement in Doomsday, much like Andrew Garfield was ahead of No Way Home.
Looking Ahead to Marvel’s Next Chapter
With less than a year until Doomsday’s premiere, fans are left to wonder how Marvel will handle Jackman’s character. Will Wolverine make another appearance, or is this truly the end? Audiences are invited to share their thoughts below.
