If you’ve fallen for Disney+’s magical newcomer — the one drawing Harry Potter and Wednesday comparisons — there’s a promising season 2 boost you’ll want to hear about.

Not to sound like a broken record, but the high school fantasy series genre just won’t quit. This time it’s Coven Academy making waves on Disney+, with headlines already popping up about a possible second season. If you’ve watched even half an episode, it’s easy to see why: it’s giving proper Harry Potter meets Wednesday energy, but with a knowing wink and a dash of actual mischief.

What’s New with Season 2?

The latest reason the fandom is buzzing comes straight from Malina Weissman, main star and scene-stealer who plays Briar, our perpetually befuddled and quite charming student witch. Variety pressed her about the future of Coven Academy, and while she didn’t confirm anything (because frankly, nobody from Disney or Freeform has signed the dotted line yet), she couldn’t hide her excitement.

Weissman opened up about her hopes and spicy predictions for what could happen if the show lands that coveted second run. Here’s how she laid it out in her chat with Variety:

In every show, in Season 1, you get to know the characters; you get to know the world; you get to know the baggage that everybody is carrying. In Season 2, you get to actually just live in it and see what happens.

She went even further, hoping her character stays in the thick of the drama and keeps things messy—particularly that love triangle energy and the mix of good and bad decisions. Turns out, that’s where she feels all the fun happens in a show about teens, witches, and discovering you might not be who you thought at all.

The Story So Far (and Why It’s Working)

If you’ve been out of the loop: Coven Academy kicks off with Briar, still grieving, landing at a school she’s told is for problematic girls. The loser's club she finds herself with—Sasha (Jordan Leftwich) and Tegan (Ora Duplass)—quickly clue her in that this isn’t detention, it’s a full-on coven. Magical chaos, coming-of-age mistakes, and ‘surely-that’s-not-allowed’ school rules follow.

What’s got execs at Disney probably rubbing their hands is that the show isn’t just being watched—it’s being properly loved by critics. It nailed a 100% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes (which, let’s be honest, almost never happens out of the gate for a supernatural teen series), plus a solid 74% from the wider audience.

Coven Academy shot up to a perfect 100% with TV critics when it launched, even as audience scores are holding steady at 74%.

Early numbers show people are tuning in and sticking with it, so if you’re wondering about a return trip to this world, it’s looking more likely now than ever. Still, Disney and Freeform are yet to officially put Season 2 on the books, so it’s a waiting game for now.

  • Coven Academy can be streamed right now on Disney+ and Hulu.
