Irina Shayk joins the cast of Emma Stone and Chris Pine’s The Catch
In a fresh casting update, Emma Stone and Chris Pine’s romcom The Catch has lined up new talent — including Irina Shayk who debuted in Dwayne Johnson’s 2014 Hercules.
Well, here’s one for your radar: The Catch, a new romantic comedy with Emma Stone and Chris Pine leading the charge, is quietly stacking up an unusually flashy supporting cast — including two newly-confirmed names that ought to turn a few heads.
Fresh faces join the game
The line-up for The Catch just got a bit glitzier. Irina Shayk — yes, that Irina Shayk, the supermodel who dipped her toe into films with 2014’s Hercules opposite Dwayne Johnson — will be appearing, as will Chris Fleming, the comedian whose profile has been rising over in Hollywood lately.

If you’re wondering what sort of roles they’ll play, you’re not alone. Universal Pictures, who’ll be putting the film out into the world, are keeping an absolute lid on any plot details or character info. Here’s the only thing they’re actually admitting so far: The Catch is a rom-com, and the backdrop is baseball. Interpret that as you will.
The creative dugout
There’s quite a team behind the camera, too. Dave McCary, probably best known for his work on Brigsby Bear, is directing the film from a script written by Jen Statsky and Travis Helwig. The actual idea for the movie came from Patrick Kang and Michael Levin — names that might ring a bell if you follow TV writers’ rooms — though their concept has clearly been finessed since.
Stone herself is producing, joined by Dave McCary and Ali Herting (all under the Fruit Tree banner, which has a first-look deal at Universal). There’s Shawn Levy and Dan Levine representing 21 Laps, and Michael H. Weber also producing — all under the watchful eyes of Universal’s execs Erik Baiers and Jacqueline Garell. Rounding things out, Robin Fisichella is on as executive producer.
The full cast and release plans
To recap: alongside Emma Stone and Chris Pine, you’ll see Shayk and Fleming rub shoulders with proper heavyweights like Tim Robbins and Sissy Spacek, plus Ashley Padilla and the comedian Druski, among others. Fleming, incidentally, seems to be having a bit of a moment – he’s just been picked up for Universal’s The Comeback King (that’s the Judd Apatow/Glen Powell project, out in Feb 2027).
The Catch is currently slated for a cinema release on 21 May 2027.
There’s still painfully little info about what anyone’s actually doing in this movie, or how the baseball angle is going to shake out, but at least fans can pencil in a release date: The Catch is targeting 21 May 2027 for its big screen debut.
