Hannah Waddingham just torpedoed the Jason Sudeikis rift chatter, saying they’re still tight on and off set while pushing the series’ next installment. That love-hate line? She says it was about his constant script tinkering, not their friendship.

Let’s be honest, the internet does love a bit of drama, especially when there’s a beloved double act in the firing line. The latest target? Hannah Waddingham and Jason Sudeikis, the stars of Ted Lasso. Apparently someone somewhere decided there’s been a falling out between the two, and the rumour mill has been in overdrive since. Here’s what actually happened, and why it’s really not as juicy as certain headlines want you to believe.

From 'Love-Hate' to Ridiculous Clickbait

The whole thing kicked off when Waddingham did an interview with Variety, talking about her experience working with Sudeikis. If you’ve seen Ted Lasso, you know the delivery is sharp, and a lot of that comes from the writing room shifting things on the fly. Waddingham said:

'There’s always going to be a bit of give-and-take within a scene, because of the nature of how Sudeikis works. He hears it in the room, and then we tweak. With that boy, you’ve got to roll with the punches. He and I have an ongoing love-hate relationship that he changes it last minute.'

For reasons that escape common sense, certain outlets spun all this collaborative give-and-take into claims of a big 'rift'.

Waddingham Shuts Down the Rumours (and Then Some)

Waddingham wasn’t having any of it, and she made that painfully clear on Instagram. If you’re looking for a proper British eyeroll, this is it:

'For the first time ever I am finding it necessary to silence the utter bollocks being written about a ‘rift’ between me and my beloved, long-standing friend and acting partner Jason Sudeikis. Ridiculous, clickbait buuuuuulllls---!'

She didn’t stop there. Ever the multitasker, while dismantling baseless rumours, she managed to drop in a plug for the next chapter of Ted Lasso, just to remind everyone what matters more than invented controversy:

'Ps. Season 4 Ted Lasso on @appleTV is gonna be a dooooozyyyy, as our mustachioed companion would say. See you all up Nelson Road! Long live AFC Richmond!'

What’s Actually Up With Ted Lasso?

  • Season 4 is officially happening: Premieres in August 2026 on Apple TV+.
  • The story: Ted is back in Richmond, but this time he’s handed the reins of a women's second-division football team. Expect some proper risks and, presumably, a few truly questionable on-pitch decisions.
  • Yes, Waddingham and Sudeikis are still mates: No fractures behind the scenes, just the usual creative tension that makes the show what it is.

So, nothing to see here apart from a slightly obsessive rumour about two actors who’ve been mates for ages, and the juicy reality that Ted Lasso is far from finished, even if clickbait desperately wants the drama.
