Young Sherlock is officially back at it – cameras are now rolling for Season 2, and the first on-set photos have cropped up online, offering a sneaky peek at what’s next. Prime Video still haven’t pinned down a date, but if you’re the betting type, sometime in the back half of next year looks promising.

Fresh Clues from the Set

Here’s what’s actually happening: Matthew Parkhill, the series’ creator and showrunner, took to social media to drop a handful of behind-the-scenes snaps, just to confirm that filming is in full swing. Among them: a production slate marked 'Season 2 Episode 2'—so no, they’re not mucking about. And yes, Hero Fiennes Tiffin is back donning the iconic Sherlock scarf, while Dónal Finn is suiting up as Moriarty once more. If you were worried there’d be a recast, fear not.

New Faces, New Places

There’s a slight change of scenery this time around. Filming has shifted to Palermo, Italy, so expect a fair few crumbling baroque buildings and sun-bleached piazzas replacing the Spanish exteriors we saw in Season 1. That already hints at a different vibe—whether it’s more gelato or more gritty crime, your guess is as good as mine.

The production isn’t just shaking up locations. Colm McCarthy – yes, the same director who handled an episode of BBC’s Sherlock during its third series – is helming episode 2 this season. Decent pick, given he’s already used to reinventing Holmes for modern screens. Mark Patten, who shot every episode of Season 1, is back as cinematographer, so expect a bit of visual consistency amidst the new backdrops.

We don’t actually know what the plot is yet – Prime Video are keeping that under wraps. But, in the photos, Moriarty is bizarrely dressed as a priest (fairly on-brand for someone who loves a bit of disguise), and Sherlock’s gone more traditional with his costuming: think classic detective kit, not whatever those Victorian fancy-dress parties call ‘Sherlock’ on the tin.
