Grey’s Anatomy star Chyler Leigh breaks her silence, opening up about the end of her more-than-20-year marriage to Nathan West—and what led to the split.

If you know Chyler Leigh from Grey's Anatomy or Supergirl, you might think her real life is just as dramatic (but hopefully less deadly) than the shows she stars in. Well, now she's letting fans in on some real-life personal stuff: after almost 26 years together, Chyler Leigh and Nathan West have called it quits. Not exactly Hollywood's usual 'out of nowhere' split, but definitely one of those moments that makes you pause—especially given how rare it is to hear about a nearly three-decade relationship these days.

Chyler Opens Up (Finally)

Leigh didn't make some big Instagram announcement or go the gray-emoji route; instead, she opened up during a recent episode of the Books That Changed My Life podcast. Host Chris Collins basically asked if there was a moment that forced her to finally reach out for help. That's when Leigh got honest about why she and West decided to go their separate ways.

'I think getting to a point where my relationship with my ex had reached a point where it was just time. It was time to let it go. Even after such a long time. We'd been together… it would be 26 years this year?'

She explained that, as much as it sounds dramatic, things just stopped working. What she wanted versus what West wanted—well, those things started looking pretty different.

Good Terms (Really)

Not every Hollywood breakup is ugly, and Leigh makes a point of saying they're still on good terms. They both wanted to avoid the resentment and anger that can creep in and basically wreck everything—including the kids' peace of mind.

'It just hit a point where it was like, "Okay, what you want and what I want aren't really lining up anymore,". And I'd rather us be on good terms and us not harbor the resentment and the anger… all that stuff. It's not worth it.'

Leigh admits it wasn't just the two of them noticing things felt off. The shift was obvious enough that their three kids—Noah Wilde, Taelyn Leigh, and Anniston Kae—noticed it too. Even family outside their immediate household was starting to pick up on the tension.

Cycles and Realities

Leigh got pretty candid about some baggage both she and West were carrying: past trauma from their own families. She talked about how easy it is to slip into repeating old habits or behaviors without ever really meaning to—what she called 'unhealthy cycles.' That realization was a wake-up call, and it eventually forced them to ask if staying together 'for the sake of the kids' or 'for old time's sake' was really doing anyone a favor.

The Backstory

  • Leigh and West met in 1999, during an audition for a WB pilot.
  • They tied the knot in 2002, back when people still used flip phones.
  • Together, they have three kids: Noah Wilde, Taelyn Leigh, and Anniston Kae.

Even after the split, Leigh says she and West are staying on the same page when it comes to raising their kids. So it's not some 'cut off all communication' kind of breakup—more like a mutual decision to do things differently, hopefully for the better.

In a town where relationships often burn bright and fizzle out fast, 26 years is basically an eternity. No cheating scandal, no tabloid blowup—just two people figuring out they're better off apart (but still co-parenting). Surprisingly rare for Hollywood, and probably a lot healthier for everyone involved.
