Gerard Butler’s Underrated Sequel Leads This Week’s Must-Watch HBO Max Lineup
HBO Max’s May 4–10 slate drops with a bang: Greenland 2: Migration, Ric Roman Waugh’s sequel to the 2020 disaster hit, sends Gerard Butler across a post-comet Earth, with more new movies and series landing all week.
Let’s get into what’s landing on HBO Max this week, and yes, there are a couple of eye-catchers — one of them being a Gerard Butler sequel most people didn’t see coming.
Butler’s Back, and the World’s Still a Mess: Greenland 2: Migration
If you caught the first Greenland (from 2020), you probably remember Gerard Butler dodging a planet-killing comet, leading his family from one disaster to the next. Well, apparently things did not improve after the world ended — at least not for the Garrity family. Greenland 2: Migration jumps ahead a few years, catches up with the survivors living in a Greenland bunker, and (big surprise) they now have to abandon that not-so-cozy fallout shelter and search for a new place to call home in the wreckage that’s left.
In addition to Butler, you’ve got Morena Baccarin, Roman Griffin Davis, Amber Rose Revah, and a pile of supporting characters wandering the wasteland. Ric Roman Waugh, who directed the first one, is back at the helm. If you want prestige, this isn’t Oppenheimer. Reviews for this one were a mixed bag, but Butler himself — as usual — gets some points for pulling the whole thing together. If you're into desperate people on the run in a destroyed world, this is your comfort food. Greenland 2: Migration drops on HBO Max May 8.
Demon Trouble: Insidious: The Red Door Also Arrives
Also getting dropped into the mix this week is Insidious: The Red Door. For those keeping score, this is the fifth movie in the supernatural horror franchise. This round, Josh Lambert and his son Dalton thought they could leave the eerie stuff behind — but as horror movies love to remind us, demons (and franchise rights) always find their way back. If you’re a completist, or just want more night terror fuel, this is your week.
Everything New on HBO Max May 4–10
If you like to see your options laid out, here’s the complete list of new releases. (Yes, some of this is reality TV and true crime, but hey, someone out there is watching Bad Foot Clinic — I’m not judging.)

And if you’re just holding out for fantasy dragons—yep, they’re still teasing House of the Dragon season 3, but for now, get ready for bunkers and jump scares instead.
