Game of Thrones fans exhale after A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 update
After the showrunner warned bad weather had halted production, there’s finally some good news for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 — and fans can breathe again.
If you've been watching the stormy saga of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the Game of Thrones spin-off that can't catch a break from the weather gods, there's finally a bit of sunny news. Fans will remember the first season dropped way back on 18 January 2026—yes, it really has been that long—and ever since, it's been a rollercoaster trying to get season two to the finish line.
Production: Floods and Gifts
The second run got the green light, but actual filming turned out to be anything but straightforward. Showrunner Ira Parker revealed that the crew, filming in Spain's Canary Islands (chosen for their suitably parched look to mirror the drought of the novel), instead found themselves dodging record-breaking floods. We're talking national emergency level disruption—hardly what you need if your script is all about dry riverbeds and water shortages.
Production on season 2 was completed despite severe weather delays caused by flooding in the Canary Islands.
If you've been holding your breath, you'll be relieved by the latest sign of progress: Peter Claffey, who leads as Ser Duncan the Tall, posted on Instagram to show off what he called "the greatest wrap gift I've ever received". It was a hurling stick engraved with "The Hedge Knight". That's a proper Irish touch, and more importantly, it all but confirms that principal photography has wrapped up for season two—even if nature itself seemed determined to stop it.
What to Expect in Season Two
This series is sticking close to George R.R. Martin's stories, and the upcoming season adapts his second Dunk and Egg novella, The Sworn Sword. The story jumps forward about a year from the first season, now smack in the middle of a fierce drought in the Reach. Dunk and Egg end up working for Ser Eustace Osgrey as they try to keep the peace amid a bitter water feud with Lady Rohanne Webber. Medieval water wars—classic Martin.
Claffey is back as Duncan, with Dexter Sol Ansell returning as Egg. New faces include Lucy Boynton, Peter Mullan, and Babou Ceesay. Given all the chaos behind the scenes, it's somewhat remarkable, but HBO is apparently still aiming for that original plan of releasing season two in the first half of 2027.
