3 Body Problem lands season 3 release update
3 Body Problem is powering up for a third season. Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, with Alexander Woo, just scored major release-date news from Netflix after the sci-fi epic’s buzzy March 21, 2024 debut.
If you thought we’d be waiting for ages between seasons of 3 Body Problem, the sci-fi series from the brains behind Game of Thrones, there’s some news that’s bound to perk up your day (or at least, your 2026). The show has already kicked off filming for Season 3, and considering how things usually crawl along on some productions, that’s quite a speedy turnaround.
The Lowdown: Where, Who, What’s Up
For anyone not keeping tabs: 3 Body Problem is the Netflix adaptation of Liu Cixin's Remembrance of Earth’s Past trilogy — an ambitious bit of genre fiction if ever there was one. David Benioff and D. B. Weiss (yes, those Benioff and Weiss) teamed up with Alexander Woo to take it on. Season 1 dropped this March and landed pretty well with both critics and viewers — not flawless, but certainly no disaster.

Production Timeline Shenanigans
Little twist for the location nerds: Series 1 was done entirely in Britain, but after that, the whole thing packed up and decamped to Hungary for the next two runs. The exception is right now: the crew’s actually filming bits of Series 3 on Camber Sands in East Sussex. For a production like this, rarely does Netflix fly everyone back for a bit of English seaside, but apparently Camber Sands had exactly the look they needed.
How Many Seasons?
After a fairly brisk renewal (Netflix greenlit Seasons 2 and 3 within two months of the premiere), Benioff, Weiss, and Woo revealed they’re planning to adapt the entire book trilogy, estimating the story will need three to four seasons all in. The goal: each season lines up with the increasingly wild turns of the novels themselves, rather than stretching for the sake of it.
