A surprise Christmas fireplace special from Fallout brings the Ghoul and a familiar New Vegas voice to Prime Video, setting the stage for season 2 with a darkly cosy twist.

In a rather unexpected move, Fallout has released a Christmas-themed fireplace special ahead of its much-anticipated second series on Prime Video. The feature, which can be found on both YouTube and Prime Video, offers a blend of the unsettling and the comforting, with Walton Goggins reprising his role as the Ghoul. Rather than the traditional yule log, the Ghoul’s fire is fuelled by something a touch more macabre: a human arm. He settles in for a quiet evening, making a wry request to have his head turned away from the flames should he doze off.

Mr. New Vegas Returns

As the Ghoul relaxes, viewers are treated to a familiar voice cameo. Mr. New Vegas, the artificial radio host originally created by Mr. House in Fallout: New Vegas, makes an appearance.

‘We sort of approach it like we do a new game, right?’ Todd Howard told us recently. ‘Like, hey, we're starting fresh, and okay, we're going back to Vegas. Number one, we've got to honour the journey that every player had there, and manoeuvring that is tricky.’

The voice of Mr. New Vegas can be heard after the Ghoul signs off, and he pops up again at intervals throughout the special. Fans of the game will recognise his distinctive delivery, which adds a layer of nostalgia to the proceedings.

Perfect Ambience for the Holidays

This special is designed to serve as a quirky backdrop for festive gatherings. The combination of the Ghoul’s dry humour and the soothing tones of Mr. New Vegas creates an atmosphere that is both eerie and oddly inviting. It’s the sort of thing you might leave playing in the background during a holiday meal, providing a talking point for those familiar with the Fallout universe.

Looking Ahead to Season Two

With the second series set to debut on 17 December, anticipation is building among fans. The inclusion of New Vegas elements in the upcoming episodes has been confirmed, promising a return to one of the franchise’s most beloved settings. The creative team has emphasised their commitment to respecting the varied experiences of players who explored New Vegas in the original game, suggesting a careful balance between new storytelling and established lore.
