Fall 2 brings back the sister who died in the first film, and blames Becky for it
Virginia Gardner and Grace Caroline Currey return in Fall 2: Deadpoint — including Gardner, whose character died last time.
Here we go again — the Fall franchise refuses to let anyone stay on the ground, even if they were dropped off a tower in the last film. Fall 2: Deadpoint has hit UK cinemas as of 2 September 2026, with the whole thing helmed this time by Michael and Peter Spierig. If you thought you’d seen the last of Virginia Gardner’s Shiloh, think again — although technically, yes, her character is still very much dead.
The returns and the rewinds
Gardner pops up in flashbacks, giving us more Shiloh than we got out of the first film’s finale, including a bit with some skydiving alongside her onscreen sister Jax (played by Harriet Slater). Not to be outdone, Grace Caroline Currey’s Becky also gets pulled out of the nostalgia locker for a flashback or two.
There’s a new bit of friction in the mix: in one of these recollections, Jax and Becky square off, with Jax blaming Becky for what happened to her sister. That’s the emotional lever for Deadpoint, if anything in this franchise could be called that.
Thai summits and dizzy heights
The main plot: two climbers (Jax and another ill-fated companion) attempt the kind of ludicrously dangerous climb that makes your palms sweat just reading the Rotten Tomatoes synopsis. Here’s what Rotten Tomatoes says you’re in for: being stuck thousands of feet up Thailand’s Mount Kwan, facing the usual endless drop, exposed sides, and enough vertigo to induce nightmares for weeks.
The critical response is as shaky as a rusty ladder at altitude — a 53% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, which really feels about right given the original’s reputation as a bit of a guilty pleasure.
Fall 2: Deadpoint holds a 53% rating on Rotten Tomatoes post-premiere.
The not-so-final ascent
Don’t get yourself thinking this is the last you’ll see of these shouty, unlucky climbers. The ending of Fall 2: Deadpoint is already teeing up another entry. Becky once again appears, this time via flashback, and after the credits, Jax invites her — in yet another callback — to a memorial for Shiloh. Franchise logic here: nothing is ever finished, least of all the falling-off-high-places theme.
The wider Fall universe started way back with Fall’s release in August 2022. Confusingly, the sequels were only publicly confirmed in October 2023 by Capstone Studios, who clearly want to milk this thing for all the tension it can muster. Scott Mann, who directed the first film, returned to produce both Deadpoint and the so-far-untitled Fall 3. He’s got plenty of company, if Capstone boss Christian Mercuri is to be believed — here’s how he hyped things up to The Hollywood Reporter:
These two new sequels are wonderful opportunities to expand on the original. We want to now take the franchise even further as we assemble the very best team and ideas to ensure the next hair-raising, death-defying and pulse-pounding film to global audiences,
We’ll see if the next climb finally puts this franchise to bed — or if we’ll be getting flashbacks-within-flashbacks two films down the line.
