Evil Dead Burn sneaks in wild post-credits scenes you won’t want to miss
Brave the carnage of Evil Dead Burn and don’t bolt at the credits — two stingers await, and one packs a franchise-shaking reveal.
Bit of a warning right up front – if you haven’t seen Evil Dead Burn yet, well, there are big spoilers ahead. You probably knew that, but I’ve got to say it, because what unfolds here genuinely changes the trajectory of the Evil Dead universe. So, let’s get stuck in.
Blood, Gore, and the Nastiest Deadites Yet
For anyone keeping score, Evil Dead Burn does nothing to soften the series’ reputation for over-the-top violence. If anything, director Sébastien Vaniček has given us Deadites at their absolute worst – in both cruelty and sheer inventiveness in the art of death. This isn’t just people getting possessed and lobbing out the odd groan; the Deadites here are gunning for a very particular weapon, and the body count racks up considerably.
The focal point is the unfortunate Price family. Grandpa Price (already dead as the film opens) spent his life poring over Deadite mayhem, desperate to find a way to protect his clan. Legacy, eh? Of course, this being an Evil Dead film, the Deadites slowly but surely start picking off the family, infecting basically everyone as they go, and things spiral rapidly towards a typically bloody showdown. You think you’ve seen it all by the time we hit the credits. Not quite.
Let’s Talk About Those Credits Scenes
This is where things get especially wild—even for Evil Dead standards. First up, in a mid-credits stinger, it turns out that Grandma Polly (now a Deadite and famously legless by this point) actually survived the bonfire of the Price house. Some poor soul stops on the road to help her, and—shocker—she jumps him and the infection continues. Standard Deadite persistence, really.
But hold onto your chainsaw, because the real surprise is in the post-credits bit. Remember the funeral director from the opening, the one in charge of Will Price’s cremation? We’re suddenly following her young daughter, who’s poking around a storage shelf stacked with urns. These urns are left unclaimed, ashes of people whose families never came back—and the little girl reads the label: ‘Ellie Bixler’.
That’s when Deadite Ellie herself appears. Same Ellie Bixler from Evil Dead Rise, played by Alyssa Sutherland. Thought she was finished? Think again. She tears through the girl with a violence that’s grim even by series standards. Here’s the mind-bending bit: after being fed through a wood chipper at the end of Evil Dead Rise (her sister’s handiwork), Ellie and her brood were supposedly cremated. Yet here she is, very much still in the game and more unstoppable than ever.
Wait, I Thought Deadites Could Be Killed?
This puts a massive dent in the Evil Dead rulebook. Up till now, the reliable way to get rid of a Deadite is either a full-on dismemberment, or burning the body to nothing. Ellie’s back, having survived both. The implication: these methods might not cut it anymore. There’s no cheeky post-credits hint about what she’s got planned next, but it’s pretty obvious this isn’t her last appearance.
What’s weirder is the timing. The main plot of Evil Dead Burn is about the Deadites’ relentless hunt for the Kandarian Dagger—a mystical artefact that’s actually proven to finish Deadites off for good (Benjamin Price, the clan’s late granddad, was on the case and found it himself). Major points for Ally, who uses the dagger on both a Deadite Joseph and a charred Deadite Will, showing that this isn’t just legend—the dagger works. No wonder the Deadites are going after it with such focus.
So with Ellie popping up after methods like fire and even a wood chipper can’t do her in, it raises the stakes. Are we dealing with a new kind of Deadite now? Might the Kandarian Dagger be the last working fix? It’s not clear if this is a one-off or a franchise-wide shift, but things are about to get even messier (if that’s possible). Let’s be honest: cutting up your possessed nan and chucking her on the fire probably isn’t going to cut it next time round.
To mix things up even further, the next announced film, Evil Dead Wrath, will rewind to the 1970s for a bit of a backstory detour. In other words, resolution for all this might not come until a later installment.
Who’s Who in Evil Dead Burn
- Joseph Price – The beleaguered family member doing his best to stay one step ahead of the Deadites
- Will Price – Joseph’s brother, whose funeral rather ominously sparks the story off
- Grandma Polly – Proves… surprisingly difficult to kill, even for a Deadite
- Ally – A key survivor, skilled with both the Kandarian Dagger and a healthy dose of common sense
- Benjamin Price – Deceased grandfather, Deadite expert, and finder of mystical weaponry
- Ellie Bixler – Notoriously persistent Deadite, previous seen in Evil Dead Rise
'She was fed into a wood chipper by her sister, and seemingly whatever was left of her and her children was cremated at the same facility that Will Price was supposed to be cremated at.'
