Dwayne Johnson’s Jumanji 3 just scored a glowing on-set update as it charges toward release later this year, poised to cap the Welcome to the Jungle and The Next Level trilogy—and serve as the fifth and final chapter of the franchise.

Well, buckle up, because the last stop on the modern Jumanji ride is officially in sight. That's right, filming on the third Dwayne Johnson-led Jumanji movie (which actually makes it the fifth Jumanji movie if you count the original and that random sequel nobody ever talks about) is done and dusted. The Rock himself jumped on Instagram to do his signature ‘grateful muscle guy’ celebration about it, so you know it really happened.

Filming: Wrapped and Ready

Dwayne Johnson rounded up the main cast—Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black—for a final on-set group shot, which he posted along with a bunch of black-and-white behind-the-scenes pics. In the caption, he pulled out all the stops to praise everyone: his co-stars, his director (Jake Kasdan), and even the late Robin Williams. Dwayne clearly isn’t phoning it in at this point—he called the shoot one of the ‘most fun and pure creative joy’ experiences of his whole career.

'An official FINAL wrap on one of the most fun and pure creative joy experiences I’ve ever had in my entire career – the adventure of JUMANJI,' Johnson wrote.

For extra credit, he added that playing his adventurer Dr. Smolder Bravestone was done ‘in the spirit’ of Robin Williams, and called it his 'absolute honor.' Sincere, and a little bit of a flex, honestly.

When You Can Actually See It

Here’s the not-so-little change: the movie is now set for a Christmas Day release—December 25, 2026. That’s two weeks later than the original plan (December 11), because studios would rather point a loaded dice than put anything next to Marvel or Dune at the box office. Both Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three drop December 18, and nobody wants to get mowed down in that crossfire. So if you’re into jungle comedy-adventures on Christmas, your stocking just got stuffed.

The People Behind (and In Front of) the Madness

  • Director: Jake Kasdan (if his name sounds familiar, he’s been steering this Jumanji bus from the reboot’s beginning; also, son of Hollywood legend Lawrence Kasdan, if you like Hollywood trivia)
  • Writers: Kasdan, Jeff Pinkner, and Scott Rosenberg
  • Producers: Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, Matt Tolmach, and Jake Kasdan again (guy wears plenty of hats)
  • Main cast: Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Jack Black, plus the return of Marin Hinkle, Danny DeVito, Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Morgan Turner, Ser'Darius Blain, Nick Jonas, Awkwafina, Brittany O'Grady, Burn Gorman, and Dan Hildebrand. So, a packed house.

This is (Probably) The End

What's a little wild here: this is being billed as the final entry not only for this reboot-trilogy, but for the whole Jumanji run (which started back in '95 with Robin Williams). Realistically, if it makes a fortune Sony will dust off the board game again in seven years, but for now, it's marketed as the grand finale.

So, to sum it up: the movie is locked up, the jungle crew is taking one last bow, and The Rock is getting sentimental about a film where half the budget probably went to fake jungle vines and bug-eyed animal CGI. Set your holiday calendars for a Jumanji curtain call… unless Avengers or Dune blow up the schedule again.
