Netflix has set a date for 'Black Doves' Season 2 — time to pencil the acclaimed British action spy thriller back into your diary.

If you were just starting to wonder if Black Doves had quietly vanished into the streaming void, here's some actual good news: London's least functional spies are heading back to Netflix much sooner than you'd think. After detonating its way onto screens with a slick cocktail of action and attitude in December 2024, the series genuinely caught fire with viewers. It's been a long wait since Ben Whishaw's barely controlled lunatic assassin Sam Young and Keira Knightley's restless undercover Helen Webb went shooting (and occasionally flirting) their way through the capital, but now we've finally got a launch date for round two.

Netflix will drop Black Doves Season 2 in 2026, ending nearly two years of radio silence for fans.

What happened last time?

Joe Barton originally unleashed the show in early December 2024, and it didn't waste time making trouble. People clearly couldn't get enough of Knightley and Whishaw's double act — she with all the cool restraint, he the very definition of a walking panic attack with a gun. Right from the jump, Netflix got so carried away with the numbers that they greenlit Season 2 before the first batch of episodes had even properly landed. Still, in classic Netflix fashion, folks have had to hold on through a much longer wait than anyone expected, thanks both to scheduling mess and the fact that Barton isn't one to dash out scripts for the sake of it.

How many are back, and who's new?

  • Keira Knightley returns as Helen Webb, a master manipulator undercover in high society, still dodging bullets and bad exes.
  • Ben Whishaw is back as Sam Young, still as neurotic and lethal as ever—frankly, that's the main reason to tune in.
  • Expect the usual mixture of scheming political types, shadowy MI6 operatives, and a steady diet of backstabbing, though full cast details for the new season have yet to be publicly confirmed.

The returning cast is what most will care about—as usual with these tightly plotted British dramas, they're not showing their full hand yet on who else is jumping back in. You can safely assume there'll be new faces in the corridors of Whitehall and whichever East End pubs are standing after last season's finale, but Netflix are keeping the rest quiet for now.

No matter where you've been hiding for the last year and a half, there's no denying that Black Doves left a fair bit hanging at the end of its first outing. The real question is whether the showrunners can live up to the hype after sitting on the goods for so long.
