Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Lands Horror Icon With Dual Serial Killer Pedigree
Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 just sharpened its knives: horror icon Kane Hodder—the man behind two of the genre’s most notorious slashers—has joined the cast, writer and executive producer Scott Reynolds revealed as filming continues in New York City.
If you thought Dexter: Resurrection would dial back the mayhem in season 2, think again. The crew just recruited a guy who practically wrote the book on playing horror movie psychos. Yes, that is as wild as it sounds. Here’s what’s going on in the world of lethal masterminds, mask-wearing maniacs, and Dexter’s ongoing New York adventure.
Dexter Gets Jason Voorhees (And Leatherface... Kind Of)
Let’s get right to it: Kane Hodder, possibly the most famous stunt-slasher in movie history, is stepping into the Dexter universe for season 2. For anyone who’s survived an old-school horror movie marathon, you probably know Hodder best as Jason Voorhees from four Friday the 13th installments—especially the memorable (and, okay, kind of campy) Jason Takes Manhattan. He also swung the chainsaw as Leatherface (doing stunt work) in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, and spent years laying waste as Victor Crowley in the bloody Hatchet series.
So if someone in season 2 gets hacked to bits or stalked through a foggy warehouse, let’s just say the guy behind the mask has loads of experience.
The news came straight from writer and exec producer Scott Reynolds, who posted a photo with Hodder and said:
'13 days in. We couldn’t fight it. We cast KANE HODDER and let fate do the rest.'
And for bonus trivia: Reynolds tagged his post with '#kaneHodderTakesManhattan'—a little wink for the horror fans out there.
The Big Mystery – Who’s He Playing?
The show is playing it coy with details about Hodder’s character. But honestly, if you’ve hired the guy who built a career on silently menacing dumb teenagers, odds are good he’ll be playing some sort of killer. The word on the street is he’s probably set to join the secret society of serial killers run by Peter Dinklage’s Leon Prater—a billionaire VC whose side hustle is assembling fellow murderers. (Not creepy at all, right?)
The Villain Watchlist: Who Else Is In?
By the way, season 2 is doing its best to break the all-time fictional serial killer roster record. Here’s a quick rundown of who else is showing up to make trouble for Dexter:
- Brian Cox as Don Framt, aka the New York Ripper. He’s an inactive serial killer who isn’t quite done terrorizing his former victims (Cox, for the record, played the original Hannibal Lecktor in Manhunter—before the fava beans and chianti, for you canon purists).
- Dan Stevens as Owen Stark, the Five Borough Killer. Apparently his thing is tormenting the police with creepy phone calls.
- Nona Parker Johnson as Fiona Mixon, in her day job a homicide training officer—who also just happens to be Harrison’s new romantic interest.
- Bokeem Woodbine as Captain Mixon—Fiona’s father and homicide boss.
- And just for good measure, Uma Thurman is returning as Charley Brown.
Filming Is Underway—In Actual Manhattan
Production for season 2 kicked off on April 13 and is currently happening in New York City—so, unlike Jason, Hodder actually gets to take Manhattan this time.
At this point, Dexter: Resurrection’s latest season looks like it’s trying to outdo both itself and half the horror franchises out there in the “sociopaths per square foot” department. If you’re a fan of actors who know how to swing a machete (and have the resume to prove it), keep watch. This season is probably going to be even messier than usual—and that’s saying something.
