Season 22 of Deadliest Catch is already rolling — and it's one of the biggest shake-ups in the programme's 21-year history, filmed under the shadow of a real tragedy at sea. Here's when UK viewers can watch, and what the fleet is sailing into.
When it airs in the UK
The season premiered in the US on Discovery Channel on Friday 8 May 2026. In the UK, episodes air on Discovery Channel on Tuesdays at 9pm, running a few weeks behind the American schedule — episode 5 went out on 16 June 2026 — with the season also streaming on discovery+ as episodes land. New instalments are still arriving weekly through summer 2026.
Why the fleet is moving 225 miles
For the first time in decades, the captains are abandoning their familiar Bering Sea grounds. A new population of rare red king crab has appeared far to the north, and the fleet relocates 225 miles to St George Island to chase it — colder weather, more extreme seas, and territory most of them have never fished. The catch is worth a fortune, which is the only reason anyone's going.
The season's big storylines:
- Sig Hansen's spy mission — in a series first, Sig covertly deploys an underwater drone to locate the crab before the rest of the fleet arrives.
- Wild Bill's guidance — Captain "Wild Bill" Wichrowski heads to St George Island to steer the fleet through the unfamiliar grounds.
- Jake Anderson's redemption arc — after losing his boat and his marriage, Jake starts the season as a deckhand for the first time in 11 years, then gets the chance to restore the legendary Cornelia Marie and retake a captain's chair.
- Typhoon Halong — episode 2 traps the fleet in a typhoon's path with no port for shelter.
The tragedy behind the season
This season carries real grief. Todd Meadows, a 25-year-old deckhand who joined the Aleutian Lady in May 2025, died on 25 February 2026 after going overboard during production. Discovery confirmed it will not broadcast the accident, out of respect for his family, but the premiere includes a tribute and later episodes feature the scenes Meadows filmed in the weeks before his death, along with the impact of his loss on the crew and the wider fishing community.
