David Tennant is headed to Netflix, with the Doctor Who standout and Harry Potter alum joining the cast of an acclaimed series, creators confirm.

Right, here's some TV news that might make your eyebrow twitch—David Tennant has popped up in a Netflix series you probably know (even if you don’t admit it). Yes, that David Tennant: former Doctor Who, slippery villain in Jessica Jones, daft demon in Good Omens and, for those keeping score, a bloke who managed to look guilty in both Harry Potter and a Thursday Murder Club adaptation. Busy chap.

Tennant's Netflix Move

So, Tennant made a sneaky entrance at the tail end of The Four Seasons Season 2—literally wedged into the final scene as Gianpiero, a suave Italian love interest for Anne (Kerri Kenney-Silver). Anne, if you missed it, jets off to Italy as the second series wraps, so it’s all feeling a bit like a travel ad with extra drama.

Will He Actually Stick Around?

Now, everyone's asking: is Tennant going to be a real fixture, or is this just a drive-by cameo? Lang Fisher, co-creator of the series, spoke to ComingSoon and confirmed they've got bigger plans:

'That’s what we’re hoping for. Yeah. We just started Season 3, the writer's room, a few weeks ago, and that surprise new friend is in the group now. So we were very excited to have him appear, yeah, that’s kind of our big cliffhanger in it. It’s another way that, like this group that’s been together forever, is now changing up with a little bit of new blood.'

Now, to be clear, Netflix haven’t officially snapped their fingers and green-lit Season 3 just yet—so, technically, it’s all a bit ‘paperwork pending’. But the creative team are cracking on regardless. Decent odds, then, we’ll see Tennant knocking about in a major role if (or, really, when) the show returns.

About The Four Seasons

The show itself is adapted from the 1981 Alan Alda film of the same name—which, honestly, most people under 50 haven’t seen but you get the idea: a mix of friendship, marriages, and midlife muddle over holidays. This version comes packed with a slightly odd but undeniably solid ensemble:

  • Tina Fey as Kate
  • Will Forte as Jack
  • Colman Domingo as Danny
  • Marco Calvani as Claude
  • Erika Henningsen as Ginny
  • Steve Carell as Nick
  • And now, for good measure, David Tennant as Gianpiero

As for Tennant himself, he’s hardly been sitting on his hands. Besides popping up in The Thursday Murder Club film (2025), he’s been lending his voice to everything from Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures and Spidey and His Amazing Friends to goodness knows what else. Possibly voiceover work for your satnav at this rate.

If you fancy catching up: both existing seasons of The Four Seasons are up on Netflix right now. Season 3 and more of Tennant’s continental flirting is likely, but as with anything ‘in development’, nothing is ever 100% until Netflix coughs up the official word.
