Netflix is bulking up Steps, its animated Cinderella spin, adding three new voices — including Daniel Radcliffe and Peter Dinklage — to the cast.

Right, if you thought the world had squeezed every last drop out of the Cinderella story, Netflix begs to differ. The streamer is currently rolling out a new animated spin, and the cast they’ve lined up is... well, not your everyday panto ensemble.

What’s Different About This Cinderella?

The film is called 'Steps', and instead of rehashing slipper business for the hundredth time, the spotlight’s on Cinderella’s stepsisters, Lilith and Margot. If you’re expecting the old pantomime villain treatment, think again: 'evil' is getting re-examined, while the plot itself sends this fairy tale properly off the rails.

The Latest Additions Are Seriously A-List

This week Netflix dropped a few names you might know:

  • Daniel Radcliffe is voicing the Romantic Prince. Apparently, he’s not your average fairytale himbo this time round. Co-director John Ripa reckons Radcliffe’s taken the Prince in a whole new direction — quirky, big-hearted, genuinely funny. If you wanted a stock Disney suitor, you’re not getting it.
  • Peter Dinklage is on board as Roderick the Muscle. Now here’s something. Roderick is described as a 'murderous man-nanny' (because why not?), which means Dinklage has to juggle terrifying and oddly driven-by-love. Director Alyce Tzue couldn’t stop raving about how Dinklage nails that weirdly delicate balance, adding both 'gravitas and humour'.
  • Young Mazino (off the back of 'Beef', if you caught that one) is tackling Gef the Heartthrob. Tzue said the second Mazino walked in, they knew they’d found their man. Apparently, he makes Gef not just dreamy but nicely down to earth — less Gaston, more humble artist type. Gef’s reportedly a big deal as the main love interest for Lilith.

Who Else Is In The Mix?

The voice cast already had plenty of big names before this: Ali Wong, Amanda Seyfried, Stephanie Hsu, Nikki Glaser and Bette Midler are all part of the line-up. If you’re ticking off your ‘Netflix animated musical’ bingo, this one’s covering most of the squares.

Plot: Chaos At The Ball

If you’re after a gentle, by-the-numbers version of the story, brace yourself. Here, the stepsisters steal the Fairy Godmother’s magic wand and essentially hijack the Royal Ball. The kingdom goes up the spout, thanks to the new villainess in town, Priscilla. Lilith has to join forces with Cinderella herself to sort things out — this rescue mission, though, is just as much about repairing their own very messy relationship.

Who’s Making This?

The film is being co-directed by Alyce Tzue and John Ripa. Both have come out swinging with effusive comments about their new cast, clearly chuffed about landing such a stacked roster. There’s also the promise of full-blown musical numbers and a script that clearly enjoys chucking the source material into a blender.

The Release Date

'Steps' is set to hit Netflix globally on 20 November 2026.
