Ryan Murphy has revealed the title of his upcoming vampire series — which might just be his take on Dracula.

Ryan Murphy has finally slapped a title on that secretive new vampire show everyone’s been gossiping about for months. If you’ve been keeping tabs on growing horror projects or just like your television with a sharper set of teeth, here’s the latest: his fresh series is officially called Brides of Blood. And, as it turns out, there’s a rather sentimental twist to the whole thing.

Family ties (and fang marks)

Murphy let slip the title while chatting with Vanity Fair, and he actually gave a bit of background you don’t get every day. Apparently, this one’s for his nan. No, genuinely—he wants to pay homage to his grandmother, who just happened to adore Dracula amid her love of musicals. Here’s how he put it in the interview:

“When I was a kid, I was very close to my grandmother, and her two favorite genres were musicals and Dracula. I’m making a vampire tale called Brides of Blood, so I can pay homage to my grandmother and what she loved—what we loved together.”

So there it is: a horror show that doubles as a tribute. Might sound a bit sweet until you remember it’s Ryan Murphy, who rarely does cozy and always finds the camp.

So, what’s the actual deal?

If you’re after hard-and-fast plot details, you’re still out of luck. All Murphy’s really confirmed is that Brides of Blood is a vampire series, inspired by characters from 'a book and its movie adaptation' he’s always been drawn to. That’s about as specific as he’s willing to get at this stage. Still, given the title, it doesn’t exactly take a Van Helsing-level brain to suspect he’s circling the infamous Brides of Dracula (those gothic scene-stealers who never seem to get their own moment).

The closest thing to a hint—besides the unsubtle title—came from an earlier Hollywood Reporter interview, where he complained that no one’s done a series about certain vampire book characters he loves. Subtle as a sledgehammer, that. Predictably, there’s been no outright announcement on whether this thing directly riffs off Dracula’s brides or something twistier in the same vein. For now, all we know for certain is that it’s a vampire project with a literary connection (plus a dash of family sentimentality for good measure).

Production and the long wait

Murphy’s timeline isn’t clandestine—he’s said filming’s set for December in Europe. That’s about as solid as it gets; don’t hold your breath for a release date, cast news, or even where it’ll actually air. Streaming service, network, carrier pigeon? All still under wraps. If history’s any guide, the cast will be buzzy, and the trailers will be everywhere, but for now it’s all hushed up. Still, at least horror fans can now stop calling it 'Untitled Ryan Murphy Vampire Series'.

Filming for Brides of Blood kicks off in December 2026 on location in Europe.

Murphy’s schedule doesn’t exactly lack for variety, either—he’s balancing American Horror Story, the new crime drama Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, and legal drama All's Fair. According to Murphy, the point is to serve up something for everyone, so Brides of Blood ought to add another sharp (potentially fanged) flavour to the mix. If you’re into the idea of Dracula getting the Murphy treatment—with all the glitz, kitsch, and sly family nods he can squeeze in—you’ll want to keep an eye on this one.
