Colin Farrell reveals when The Batman Part II starts filming
Cameras roll on The Batman Part II next week, Colin Farrell reveals, as he heads back to Gotham to reprise Oz Cobb, aka the Penguin.
Colin Farrell’s been chatting about The Batman Part II, and if you’re keeping track of DC’s upcoming films, there’s finally some movement. Yes, Farrell is back as Oswald 'Oz' Cobblepot—he’s the bloke who’s now in charge of crime in Gotham (if you saw the Penguin series finale, you’ll know how that shook out). But don’t expect Penguin to be hogging the screen this time.
The Next Chapter: Grit, Snow, and That Logo
Filming on The Batman Part II is just about to kick off—literally a week away, according to Farrell. He let this slip in an interview, looking genuinely chuffed to be heading to London for a few weeks’ work, even if he’s not the main event this time around. In his own words:
'They start, I think, in a week… It’ll be an amazing set to be on. The script, I’ve said before, and you know, I said it to you, it’s extraordinary. It really is. Matt is just so brilliant, and he just cares so deeply about the stories he tells. I will go fly to London in four or five weeks. I haven’t got much to do on it, but I’ll go for four or five weeks. I’ll be there for a few weeks. I’m so excited to see it as a fan.'
So, Farrell’s stint isn’t massive—maybe four or five weeks on set, by his estimation—but evidently he’s not complaining. Seems Penguin’s part in the sequel is more supporting act than front and centre. If you were hoping for another cobblestone-smashing power play, might be wise to temper those expectations.
The film itself is rolling out a bit of a new look: Gotham in winter. Fans who are into combing set photos may have noticed a tweaked Bat logo cropping up—cue the rampant speculation about which baddie it’s hinting at (and yes, there’s a fair amount swirling over the working title as well).
Other Bits and Bobs We Know
- This sequel is apparently keeping its story cards close to its chest—no major plot details in the wild.
- There’s solid buzz about Sebastian Stan and Scarlett Johansson joining the cast. Stan’s role is still being kept secret but internet theorists are convinced it’s Harvey Dent/Two-Face. No official confirmation, but the rumour mill is at full speed.
- The Penguin spin-off ended with Oz Crowning himself Gotham's crime boss, so when The Batman Part II begins, it’s pretty clear who's running the show. Penguin itself might even get a second series, supposedly set after the next Batman flick drops.
- The Batman Part II is currently billed for a UK release on 1 October 2027. Long wait, but these productions tend not to be swift affairs.
That’s about where the tea leaves leave us. The bat-signal is lit, cameras are (almost) rolling, and it sounds like Matt Reeves has another moody epic lined up.
