Asked to pick just one Christopher Nolan favorite, Colin Farrell couldn’t do it—so he dropped a top three that most fans will happily co-sign.

If you ever wondered which films from Christopher Nolan get the Colin Farrell seal of approval, well, the man himself has just cleared that up — and, predictably, he can’t pick just one. This came up in a recent chat with Collider, where Farrell was quizzed about his favourite Nolan flicks while discussing the upcoming The Odyssey. For the record, his Spielberg picks are equally indecisive, but let’s start with Nolan.

The Farrell-Nolan League Table

Most people would struggle to choose one standout from Nolan’s catalogue, so frankly, three answers is about par for the course. Here’s how Colin Farrell sees it:

  • Gold: Oppenheimer – Farrell’s top spot goes to Nolan’s recent biographical epic. He was pretty effusive about it, saying:
"I just thought Oppenheimer was perfect. I thought everything that Chris Nolan and his folks have... every creative waters and intellectual waters that they’ve swum in before, and sound design and the visual accouterment of film, and the performance and the writing, it all just came together. Like when you see Star Wars, and then it goes like this? That was Oppenheimer. Everything just came together so perfectly."
It’s classic Nolan — multiple threads, bold visuals, big ideas. Apparently, Farrell reckons this was the one where it all clicked.
  • Silver: The Prestige – Farrell admits this is the film he keeps coming back to. If you like the sound of magicians, obsession and relentless plot twists, you’ll get why this one sticks in his mind.
  • Bronze: The Dark Knight – No surprises here. It’s a film that’s aged frighteningly well, and Farrell name-checked it alongside the others as a clear favourite.

The interviewer called him out for not picking just one, but Farrell’s response was classic: "Gold, silver, and bronze."

Spielberg Picks? Just as Uncommitted

If you thought his Nolan choices were generous, wait for the Spielberg round. According to Farrell, his own son's pick is Jurassic Park ("which I love"), but these days he’s partial to Close Encounters. He’s keen to point out that as a younger lad (roughly six, in his own words), E.T. was his childhood favourite. Most of us haven’t been that loyal to a director over several age brackets.

What’s Next? That Penguin Suit Again

Oh, and in case you missed it, Farrell’s already gearing up to be back in Gotham as the Penguin for the next round of The Batman. No rest for the wicked — or the weirdly versatile, apparently.
