Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction 3 Confirms Fan-Favorite Stars Are Back in Major Update
Extraction 3 is a go: Netflix’s action juggernaut is moving into production, with Chris Hemsworth back alongside other returning stars—more than two years after the Certified Fresh sequel landed an 80% on Rotten Tomatoes.
All right, after sitting in 'will they or won’t they' limbo for ages, Netflix is finally getting Extraction 3 off the launchpad. Yep, Chris Hemsworth and his questionable death wish are back for another round of explosions and neck-snapping (the fictional kind).
Who’s Actually Coming Back?
If you were betting on Tyler Rake making it past his last joy ride through gunfire, congrats—you win. Chris Hemsworth is officially back, because apparently, Netflix is never letting go of their leading action guy. Golshifteh Farahani is also returning as the ever-capable Nik Khan, which makes sense since she’s been one of the consistent bright spots since the first movie.
Now for the big 'Wait, who?' surprise: Idris Elba is getting bumped up from his cameo in Extraction 2 to a meatier role (you probably blinked and missed him last time). That’s a pretty strong trio—though as usual, Netflix is being secretive about what’s actually happening plot-wise or where in the world they’ll send these poor characters.
Timeline & Behind the Scenes
- Filming is set to kick off this summer—so don’t expect any teasers for a while.
- Sam Hargrave, stunt-guy-turned-director, is back in the director’s chair for part three. The screenplay is getting handled by David Weil.
- The producer list is long and loaded with familiar names: Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco, Ari Costa (that’s the AGBO squad), plus Hemsworth and Benjamin Grayson, Hargrave, Patrick Newall, Eric Gitter, and Peter Schwerin. Steven V. Scavelli is executive producing, if you’re keeping score at home.
- For those wondering where all of this started, the Extraction movies pull from the graphic novel 'Ciudad' co-created by Ande Parks and the Russo brothers.
Netflix Is Building a Whole Extraction Universe. Really.
Apparently, two plus movies wasn’t enough. The Extraction franchise is now spawning not one, but two (!) spin-offs:
1. Mercenary: An Extraction Series
Omar Sy is set to headline this one—a TV series focused on a mercenary with the fun little task of storming into Libya to rescue hostages.
2. TYGO: South Korean Spin-Off
This movie stars Don Lee (Eternals) and—here’s the wild part—Blackpink’s Lisa, making her official debut in a feature film. Seems like everyone wants in on the action (literally).
'Filming is finally moving forward this summer, and Chris Hemsworth is officially locked in to swing that giant hammer—I mean, rifle—again.'
If this sounds like a franchise getting bigger than anyone expected… well, you’re not wrong. Netflix is betting hard on people loving this particular flavor of chaos.
