Percy Jackson's third season lands on Disney+ on 20 November, the first to break from Riordan's books

If you're a fan of Percy Jackson & the Olympians—the Disney+ series, not just the books—there are some proper changes coming in season 3. No, not the sort of minor tweaks where someone's hair colour is different. This time, it's the heart of the show: character relationships, and even whose perspective we're following. And yes, the series' lead, Walker Scobell (who plays Percy himself), has been dropping teasers about what's next.

For once, they've decided to get a bit more creative with Rick Riordan's source material. If you always thought Percy and Nico could do with a bit more actual screen time together, Disney+ is apparently of the same mind.

New Bonds and Shifting Focus

Here's how Scobell told it to Entertainment Weekly ahead of the new run dropping: Percy and Nico are a fair bit closer on screen than what you got in the books. That's not just him improvising on set—it's clearly a deliberate shift for season 3.

Scobell put it like this in his interview: "They’re a little bit closer than they are in the books. Nico reminds Percy a lot more of himself and how happy you could be in this [magical world]. I think it’s really easy to start to lose your optimism [when] you start to feel really negative feelings, and I feel like Nico is so positive, and he’s so happy, and everything is so interesting and cool to him, and I feel Percy likes seeing that a lot."

It doesn't stop there. This is the season where you're finally seeing Nico (played by Levi Chrisopulos) and his big sister Bianca (Olive Abercrombie) actually keeping family as their number one priority. The show's made a bit of an effort to tighten the sibling bond—and Percy's noticing. According to Scobell, Percy genuinely "really respects" this protectiveness in Nico. Apparently, that's something Percy has always had himself.

Not Percy's Worldview Anymore

The other big departure? For once, this series is stepping away from the constant filter of Percy's perspective. "Not from Percy’s point of view," according to Scobell, which is a fairly major switch if you know how the original stories are told. That means more space for characters like Nico and Bianca to develop as actual people, not just satellites in Percy's orbit.

Chrisopulos, playing Nico, said he worked with acting coach Andrew McIlroy to hang onto the key bits of Nico from the books, while tweaking a few things—needed, he reckons, because everyone around him has shifted a bit too, especially Percy, Thalia and Bianca.
