Bond boss says hunt for Daniel Craig’s successor is finally heating up
Bond producer Barbara Broccoli has offered the clearest hint yet about when 007 will be unveiled, dropping a timing tease in a new interview.
We finally have something a bit more solid to go on if you've been sat there waiting for fresh news about who might be stepping into James Bond's tastefully polished shoes next. Amy Pascal, Sony's producing force on everything from Spider-Man to the Bond films, has properly thrown a bone to all the speculators out there.
During promo chat for the new Spider-Man (as you do), Pascal got the Bond cast question yet again. This time, though, she didn't dodge it completely.
Pascal replied, 'I would say the end of the year is a good bet. We are being really, really methodical. Having worked with Barbara Broccoli at the studio, I mean, Daniel Craig is a hard act to follow. And it's got to be something that is really different that is stirring and exciting and different.'
If you needed it underlining, that's about as precise as anyone official has dared to get in ages. We're looking at end of the year for an announcement, unless something slips. Pascal made it clear they're in no rush and want to get this right, pointing out how Daniel Craig has left a very large tuxedo to fill.
So the big picture: the new 007 is still a proper mystery, they want something properly new and not just a knock-off of what came before, and the current thinking is we'll hear who it is before the year's out. No teasers for specific names yet, but at least there's a real timeline now.
