Axed after one season, that AMC show is crushing streaming now
Axed after one season, an AMC supernatural thriller based on Anne Rice’s novels is suddenly surging on Netflix, cracking the US Top 10 months after its cancellation.
One minute you’re axed, the next you're trending — that’s the saga of Talamasca: The Secret Order, a supernatural thriller from AMC that managed just one series before getting the boot. Strange things happen when a show slips quietly onto Netflix, though. Now, months after AMC canned it, Talamasca is elbowing its way back into the limelight by barging into Netflix’s Top 10 in the US. Sometimes, the dead really don’t stay buried.
Talamasca hit Netflix’s Top 10 for TV on 25 August 2026 — an unusual comeback months after AMC pulled the plug.
So in case you missed it the first time, here’s the gist: The six-episode run follows Guy Anatole, a telepath recruited by a secret society called the Talamasca, who are tasked with monitoring all the immortal riff-raff—vampires, ghosts, demons, witches, that sort of thing. Nicholas Denton leads the cast, joined by Celine Buckens, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, William Fichtner, and Elizabeth McGovern. Bit of a genre buffet, if we’re honest.
From Premier to Premature Exit
The show first aired on AMC on 19 October 2025, wrapping up just over a month later on 23 November. And that, as far as AMC was concerned, was that — they pulled the plug on 27 March 2026 after just one season. Weirdly enough, it’s not languishing in the TV afterlife like so many others; instead, it’s found a second wind online. As of right now, Talamasca is sitting at number four on Netflix’s US chart, trailing only Outer Banks, Blood Sacrifice, and shiny new arrival Raw.
- Talamasca: The Secret Order aired on AMC between October–November 2025
- Cancelled by AMC in March 2026 after one season
- Hit Netflix Top 10 on 25 August 2026
- Sits at #4 on Netflix US after two days on the chart
- 61% on Rotten Tomatoes from 23 critics; 63 on Metacritic (15 critics)
- Nominated for two Saturn Awards (Best Horror Series; Best Supporting Actor for William Fichtner)
- Filmed in Manchester, England starting autumn 2024
Why the Resurrection?
As for why Talamasca suddenly has a second life — that’s partly down to connections. The series slots into the so-called Immortal Universe, which AMC have been building since Interview with the Vampire back in 2022. Eric Bogosian and Justin Kirk guest-star, reprising their earlier roles, and Sam Reid, AKA Lestat de Lioncourt, drifts in for a quick voice cameo. Nothing like a bit of continuity to keep fans poking around.
Critics didn’t love it, but they weren’t openly hostile, either: Talamasca managed 61% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 63 on Metacritic, based on a handful of reviews. Enough interest, apparently, for the Saturn Awards to chalk up a nomination for Best Horror Television Series — and a personal nod for Fichtner as Best Supporting Actor.
Production-wise, it all started in Manchester in autumn 2024. The rapid rise on Netflix feels like déjà vu; these days it’s practically a tradition for axed series to find a bigger audience once they land somewhere new. This time, that “somewhere” just happens to be the world’s favourite streaming service.
