Avengers: Doomsday runtime confirmed just before ticket pre-sales begin

If there’s one thing Marvel can rely on, it’s that fans love to plan ahead – and with Avengers: Doomsday hitting cinemas in December, Disney’s already in the thick of ramping up the hype machine. And surprise surprise, they’re also introducing a brand new large-format screening setup, plus the blessedly reliable drip-feed of pre-sale ticket news.

Disney’s New “Infinity Vision” Screenings

Here’s the latest wrinkle: Disney’s launching premium ticket sales for Avengers: Doomsday starting 20 July. But here’s the catch – it’s not for your garden-variety screens. The studio’s cooked up something called “Infinity Vision”, a large-format brand they conjured up after Warner Bros. muscled in and snagged all the good IMAX slots for Dune Part III. If you want to see Doomsday in the biggest, shiniest way Disney can manage, Infinity Vision’s your lot.

Apparently, domestic pre-sales are opening a full five months before the film even lands. Talk about wanting your money early. That ticket window comes right before Marvel’s standard mayhem at San Diego Comic-Con on 25 July, by the way – a date you can file under “inevitable trailer drop”.

The (Current) Running Time

Along with all the ticket buzz, Disney’s revealed the film’s current length – 165 minutes. So yes, you’ll be sitting down for just under three hours, which drops it right between Infinity War (149 minutes) and Endgame (a bladder-testing 181 minutes). For what it’s worth, that number could shift a bit as the edit isn’t totally final, but don’t expect anything drastic. Schedules for these mega-premieres are locked in tight.

Endgame’s Back (Now Even Larger)

There’s another arrow in Disney’s quiver: Avengers: Endgame Encore is heading back to cinemas, this time slotted for Infinity Vision showings from 25 September. In case you’ve forgotten, Endgame still ranks as the world’s second-highest-grossing film ever, at $2.8 billion – only James Cameron’s Avatar (from 2009!) is out in front.

The Cast: Everyone You Expect, and Then Some

• Robert Downey Jr. steps back into the Marvel circus, this time as Doctor Doom – so, prepare for full meta-universe mayhem.
• The regulars: Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Paul Rudd, Pedro Pascal, Anthony Mackie, Tom Hiddleston.
• The next gen: Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Vanessa Kirby, Simu Liu, Letitia Wright.
• And just because you can never have too many legendary Brits in capes: Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are both onboard.

The Russo brothers (Anthony and Joe) are back directing. The film’s out on 18 December.

Disney’s Ticketing Tactics (and Predictable Trailer Timing)

Pre-sales for Doomsday are rolling out just before Marvel’s big Hall H appearance at Comic-Con. So you can bet whatever official trailer they’re hiding will drop both in San Diego and everywhere online at exactly the same moment – anyone remember last summer’s Universal launch for The Odyssey?

Disney’s clearly hoping their new Infinity Vision screens – which, for now, are exclusive to them thanks to Warner Bros. grabbing IMAX elsewhere – will lure in the die-hards for multiple viewings. And, if Endgame topping $2.8 billion is any indication, they might just pull it off.
