Avatar 4 to Feature Kiri as New Narrator, Weaver Confirms

For years, audiences have experienced the wonders and perils of Pandora through the eyes and words of Jake Sully, portrayed by Sam Worthington. Yet, as the much-talked-about Avatar series continues, a significant change is on the horizon. Sigourney Weaver, who brings the character Kiri to life, has revealed that she will be taking over narration duties in the fourth instalment.

Speaking to Jake's Takes, Weaver shared,

I narrate the next one, Avatar 4. It's a major part of the saga for Kiri.

This marks a notable departure from the established format, with Kiri’s perspective set to guide viewers through the next chapter of the story.

Long-Standing Plans and a New Direction

Weaver went on to confirm that this development is far from sudden. She was first informed about her expanded role back in 2013, at the very outset of the sequels’ development. The decision to shift the narrative focus was made early, suggesting a carefully considered evolution for the franchise.

According to Weaver, the next two films will represent a

big shift

for the series. This change in direction is expected to bring Kiri’s journey to the forefront, offering a fresh lens through which to explore the world of Pandora and its inhabitants.

Release Date and Cameron’s Involvement

The fourth film is currently scheduled for release on 21 December 2029. However, there has been ongoing speculation regarding James Cameron’s level of involvement in the upcoming sequels. Some have suggested that the director may take a step back for the next two entries.

Cameron himself addressed these rumours, stating,

I mean, there's no reason not to. I'm healthy, I'm good to go.

Despite his optimism, he acknowledged the demands of such a long-term commitment, adding,

I'm not going to rule it out. I mean, I've got to make it in a vigorous way, to handle the kind of volume and energy of the work for another six or seven years. You know what I mean? I might not be able to do that.
