Now there’s fresh talk of a spinoff, and Maisie Williams herself has finally responded, putting a bit of reality to the speculation.

Maisie Williams Responds to Arya Spin-off Buzz

Williams recently spoke to The Guardian and, yes, she’s seen the recent headlines floating around about an Arya-centric series. But if you thought she was sitting on a secret script, you’ll be disappointed. She claims she’s as much in the dark as the rest of us, poking fun at the rumours:

Pressed about whether she’d be up for returning to Arya’s boots, Williams was pretty candid. She reckons the character would need proper development to justify a comeback, mainly because she’s changed quite a bit herself since Thrones wrapped. She also pointed out what really made Arya tick for viewers—the tension between her being a kid and her knack for violence and grit well beyond her years.

She added, "She would have to be developed in some way because I feel like I've changed so much... I feel like what people loved about Arya is that she was always a child doing things that were quite grown-up."

Where Did These Rumours Come From, Anyway?

If you like tracing stories back to the source, most of this noise kicked off thanks to a Hollywood Reporter piece in January 2026. The article mainly dwelled on HBO’s stumbling Jon Snow sequel plans, but apparently some sources suggested that bringing Arya in might jumpstart things again. Arya was named as one of the familiar faces HBO could use to keep fans interested in Westeros.

It’s supposedly Quoc Dang Tran, of ‘Drops of God’ fame, who’s developing an Arya-in-Essos project, but let’s be clear: nothing’s official or announced. And in classic fashion, George R. R. Martin isn’t giving the game away—he keeps dodging questions about what's actually brewing behind the scenes.
