That long-running The Boys fan plea for a Homelander–Butcher kiss just crashed into reality again, and Antony Starr’s response was a hilariously baffled, perfectly on-brand nod to the show’s twisted vibe.

Sometimes 'The Boys' fandom comes up with stuff so wild that even the cast doesn't know what to do with it. Case in point: the ongoing theory that arch-enemies Homelander and Butcher should just cut the tension and kiss already. Yes, really. Apparently it's enough of a meme that even Antony Starr (the guy behind the world’s most disturbing superhero) has heard about it… multiple times.

So Wait, Homelander and Butcher... Kiss?

The rumor mill—and by 'rumor mill' I mostly mean persistent, gleeful Twitter users—won’t let up. At a recent interview, Entertainment Tonight decided to ask Starr about this fan theory point-blank. The result? Exactly what you'd expect: confusion, then slow-motion amusement.

The interviewer lobbed the question about a possible 'happy ending' (their words, not mine), setting Starr up for a series of increasingly baffled expressions. His first reaction:

'Who said that?'

After the ET hosts spelled out the theory (apparently, Homelander and Butcher's mutual hatred is just sexual tension in disguise? Sure, why not), Starr fired back perfectly in character:

'The dream team of press. Why would they say that? Why? I don’t even—this is the second time it has come up.'

For the record, this isn’t the first time fans have pitched him on it—and if his reaction is any indication, it probably won’t be the last.

Redemption Arc? Don’t Hold Your Breath

While they were at it, ET also asked if Homelander could ever get a redemption arc. Starr’s answer was about as blunt as you’d expect:

'I don’t know. It’s a stretch. But you never say never.'

Then he got a little more philosophical (and a little more “just watch Jaws, people”):

'One of the things that we love about Jaws is that the shark is still a shark at the end of the movie. Homelander's gonna be Homelander, you know? And I don’t think I'm spoiling anything to say that a redemption arc for Homie would be a challenge.'

Translation: Don’t count on Homelander swapping laser eyes for therapy sessions any time soon. And, honestly, anyone expecting fanservice-heavy romance between the two biggest egomaniacs on the show is probably watching a different series.

Where Things Stand for Season 5

  • Season 5 of 'The Boys' kicks off April 8.
  • Homelander is more unstoppable (and unhinged) than ever.
  • Butcher and the gang are basically scattered and licking their wounds.
  • All the main faces are back: Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Erin Moriarty, and Jensen Ackles all return as the story barrels toward a finale.

If past seasons are any clue, expect blood, swearing, and zero actual 'happy endings' (of any kind) for, well, anyone. Honestly, that's probably just how Homelander would want it.
