Anson Mount returns as Captain Christopher Pike as Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4 warps onto Paramount+ July 23, streaming exclusively.

It is nearly that time again: Star Trek fans, get your tea (or synthehol) sorted out, because Strange New Worlds is back for another go-round next week. Yes, Paramount+ is rolling out Season 4 and the countdown is well and truly on.

Release dates, episode details, and the usual streaming faff

The new season beams down on 23 July, and it is yet another ‘weekly drop’ ordeal — so if you like a good binge, try to develop some patience or you will lose your mind. The run is set for ten episodes, wrapping things up come 24 September. All of it, rather predictably, will be on Paramount+ only, so don’t bother scouring Netflix or Prime.

The returning crew — aka, the Enterprise’s greatest hits

  • Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike
  • Ethan Peck as Spock (ears and eyebrows at the ready)
  • Rebecca Romijn as Number One
  • Jess Bush back as the not-at-all-overwhelmed Christine Chapel
  • Christina Chong returns as La'An Noonien-Singh
  • Celia Rose Gooding as Nyota Uhura
  • Melissa Navia, Babs Olusanmokun, Martin Quinn, and Bruce Horak all back in their respective posts

Space adventures and dread: the official tease

This year’s plot blurb leans heavily into classic Trek territory: emotional drama, terrifying aliens (insert your own Gorn joke here if you like), guest characters probably designed to give old fans palpitations, and every manner of external vs inner foe you can think of. The PR copy mentions the crew 'embracing a bright, hopeful future,' which, let’s be honest, does sound like classic Federation propaganda—though the show has mostly earned the right to lean into it.

Bit of context for the franchise nerds

For anyone who tuned in late: Anson Mount was first handed the keys to the Enterprise as Pike back in Star Trek: Discovery, before Strange New Worlds spun out into its own thing (and frankly, saved the brand for quite a few fans who had grown wary). He even popped up in a few Short Treks, so the man is hardly a stranger to Starfleet uniforms at this point.

Since its launch back in 2022, Strange New Worlds has become one of those rare modern Trek shows to get both diehards and new recruits agreeing it does the job: old-school, single-story adventures with just enough serialisation to string everything together. No mystery box nonsense here.

The powers that make things go to warp

The series is a co-production from CBS Studios, Secret Hideout, and Roddenberry Entertainment, with Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers back on duty as co-showrunners. No shake-ups at the top, so expect the same balance of nostalgia, spaceship drama, and wobbly aliens who speak perfect English.

But, of course, there’s a catch

Before you put on the party hats, Paramount+ has made it very clear: enjoy these episodes, because there is a timer ticking. The show has already been scheduled to end after its fifth season, so as much as this feels like a fixture now, the finish line’s already been plotted on their star chart.

'The crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise – led by Captain Christopher Pike – embark on a series of thrilling and emotional adventures across the stars.'
